Hi We are thinking of buying a house which the owners have filled in their inground fibreglass pool with garden rubbish. We would like to remove this and put in a new one but wondered how you dispose of the old fibreglass pool shell? Any advice would be grateful thanks in advance
You could check with the local Dechetterie … they will probably accept all this rubbish/stuff… and dispose of it “correctly”…
although there might well be a fee to pay… well worth it, whatever.
Technically you should notify your decheterie who will tell you how to cut it - but if you are installing a new pool, how about cutting it up into flat panels, lay them on the bottom and install the new pool on top?
You need to choose a selection of suppliers for your new pool and ask each to quote for the new pool including the removal of the old one. Otherwise, if you just want to dig it out and dispose of it ask three Terrassement companies to quote for digging it out and disposing of it. I’m sure they’ll just smash it up with their digger, load it in the back of a truck and cart it off. You’ll need them back to make the existing hole the right size for you new pool when you embark on it.
Depending on where this is in France you might do well to consider why the previous owners filled it in.
Pools can be expensive to run, especially if you want a long season of use. They also require proper attention to keep them usable.
The previous owners may have weighed up the pros & cons & decided that for the amount of use they got from the pool it simply wasn’t worth it.
P.S. Having had to look after pools for various holiday home owners here is Normandie I reached the conclusion that the only way I’d ever take the plunge (!) of having one would be if I could afford a retractable roof & a member of staff to keep things in tip-top shape.
Thank you for your message … we have considered all your points and discussed with the sellers. But thank you for taking the time to respond.
Thanks Stella we will contact the local dechetterie as you suggest. Thank you for taking the time to respond it’s much appreciated
Thank you we will contact the local dechetterie as you suggest. I’m not sure we would be able to cut up and place in the bottom of the hole as it’s an oval pool so would be curved rather than flat but something to consider. Thank you for taking the time to respond it’s much appreciated
