Removal of garden rubbish

The French word for a tow-truck?

My Land Rover Series 3 is described officially as a remorque. Trailer it ain’t. Most ornery people call it a quatr’-quat’ :hugs:

Google “remorque” and click on images. This is what comes up - no Land Rover 3 series in sight Peter. “Most onery people” round here call it a remorque and I tell you there are a lot of them.

Yes it is a shame they are not shipping right now - I am sure anyone looking to buy that particular shredder would be able to find it elsewhere.

Ask if your commune has a man with a flat bed / truck who could do it for you as loads of trips are not exactly environmentally friendly. Plus, as you say, many communes limit the annual number of visits.

And ask the neighbours if someone hasn’t already suggested it? Last week we were at my parents place in Normandy and had to cut back and dispose of an INCREDIBLE amount of stuff. We had originally planned to take it to the déchèterie as my dad normally does, but as it had been left for much longer than normal, the sheer quantity meant there would have been 20 plus trips. It would have trashed my (leased!) car and when you calculate fuel etc, just not the sensible thing to do.

We left the lot at the bottom of the (small) garden on the grounds that it will have rotted by next summer bar the large branches which can then be chopped up and burnt. However, the next day the neighbours came round and offered to take it in their truck for us.

Good luck!

True. I am an ex lorry driver and I can tell that the bit I have been dragging around after the bendy bit for 50 years , is not a Landy.

Hi Jane

Here in La Manche, most of our neighbours are farmers or have small holdings. They all have regular bonfires. I queried this with them when we moved here, and they all said " no problem ".

Totally take your point though.

As I don’t have a trailer, and the tip is about 12K away, I think I may need to look at buying a shredder for the medium sized cuttings. Bigger pieces are chopped for the wood burner, which is OK.

Have a good day

Andy

Sadly they are completely wrong. Changing habits is very slow, but the law has changed. You risk a 450€ fine… here is the real situation

But more importantly it is not good environmentally.

Thanks Jane.

You are an absolute fountain of knowledge.

You should go on Mastermind - specialist subject “The French Legal System”

and it has very good reviews and it’s on offer at the moment for UK delivery if you know anyone coming over with room in the car.

We’ve just gone for a Lidl/Parkside which are generally pretty good value and reliable - has a 3 year guarantee, file the receipt and if it doesn’t make it, take it back for a replacement.
