Renewing titre de sejour

Hi my first post so hope i dont break any rules !
My wife and i have owned a house and lived in France since March 2019 and have 5 year cartes de séjour .These are due to be renewed August 2026. I have been trying to find out what income we will have to show to support our application and it seems that currently the figure is about 3,500€ per month for a couple. Does anyone know if this applies to new applicants only or to yhose of us already here too? Are there allowances made for house ownership etc?
Otherwise we are going to have to come up with a plan b, as we will not meet the income criteria, although we survive well enough and pay our taxes.

Once you have been resident 5 years the income thresholds fall away. I’m presuming you have WARP. cards? No-one yet knows what the criteria for renewal will be as they have yet to be issued, but the likelihood is that as long as you can show 5 years of tax returns that’s all you’ll need. And if there is an income threshold which is unlikely then more likely to be SMIC level, and reduced for a couple and homeowner as well, so more like €2k/month.

Thanks, a case of watch this space then. 2k more realistic for us, lets hope current political wranglings dont make things any harder.
Bon journée

Oh dear after such a promising start and your wish to break no rules. Bonne journee. But doing the accent, which my keyboard (or me) doesn’t, lets you off I reckon.

Welcome and thank you for eliciting an answer that is of use to me. :joy:

On my (Mac) keyboard, I get an acute accented “é” by pressing Alt-E then E in quick succession.

On a Windows computer you may also be able to get it by holding down the Alt key and typing 130 on the numeric keypad. Cumbersome, but not too bad for a few frequently used characters if you can commit the numbers to memory.

ASCII key codes:

Yes, I should have explained the ‘or me’ bit. I do know how to do it but choose not to, it is such a bind and so frequently French people don’t use them all the time anyway. They do it without thinking because they have the keyboards which can, but even then they aren’t always used, and everyone seems to understand by the context anyway. My favourite is the ‘ferme’, written on some shop doors, without an accent because there is no key for it when you are using a pen I suppose. Nobody expects it to be crammed with cows and sheep.

If it’s in capital letters then no accents needed.

It isn’t usually, but didn’t I read somewhere that the Academie had decided that capitals should have accents?
By the way

Makes my point really doesn’t it?

We do unless we are only semi-literate :slightly_smiling_face:

But was I right about the new rules regarding capitals? Can’t remember where I heard/read it now.

Strictly speaking you are supposed to put them on capital letters, the académie française says so, but lots of people don’t.

Thank you. :grinning:

On my MacBook I just hold down the letter for a second or two and an accent choice magically comes into view.

On an Android tablet, you have to add a language that uses accents in order for the menu to pop up. If you just have UK English then AFAIK, it doesn’t appear.
