Resident Au Pair

About to start my new life in France with my 7 year old son hopefully in July this year.

We have started some french lessons and using some books, videos and apps, but nothing is better than living and breathing. Plus I personally seem to learn better when I am in a country for a while and talk with the locals as i have to try and learn.

One thing I thought would be good for us to help our French was to hire a living Nannie / Au Pair that was French.

Has anyone got any good advice where to start looking for someone.
I would only want this for maybe the 1st year with the possibility to extend
From a quick google search I can see AuPair.com & GreatAuPair, com are recommended but just wanted to see if anyone had any experience of this and if it was worth doing .

My daughter got a summer job via Au Pair World ages ago and they seem to be a good site. Assuming you want a French person it would help if they have a qualification called the BAFA, you could get a live-out au pair or a live-in one by asking at pole emploi or actually putting up a notice in your mairie and local shops might help. They will need to be declared insured etc.

thank you I will try that

Whereabouts are you? Another place to ask could be your local higher education places or even lycée, plenty of youth looking for summer jobs.

Thank you I did not think of that. that could be a great place to get someone looking for some money over summer.
I am in a small village La Forge near Saint-Mathieu about 35 mins southish of Limoges.

That looks like somewhere a school leaver or student would be happy to get a summer job. They are unlikely to live in, you’ll need to declare them, pay the smic at least and probably some transport money. Good luck.the other thing you could go is put your child into a centre aéré at least a couple of days a week.

Thank you yes I seen I need to declare them and that there is a set pay scale.
Live in or not that I don’t mind I have plenty of rooms.
I will see if they have the centre aere near me as that might work.
I really just want to get him involved and start to learn to speak French before he starts school in September. He is only 7 so I am sure he will absorb the language and be fluent before me

Ask now (before the school year ends) about FLE (French for foreigners) provision, insist on it because it’s only available the first year, and they will probably try to weasel out of supplying it because it’s yet another thing to organise. Talk to the inspecteur d’academie at the Rectorat if need be.

Thank you I will do that. I will get one of my consultants onto it this week
