Sad to hear the passing of John Virgo.
I watched him a few times in the 70s and 80s playing snooker as well as entertaining the fans with his impersonations and stories etc. He was a really good player in his own right, winning four titles.

I only remember him for his comedic snooker programmes with Jim Davidson, I didn’t realise he was a professional, always being described as UK Amateur Champion. Also seem to remember a strong Mancunian accent.
As a Mancunian without the accent, it always amuses me when I think I identify it.
