One of my favourites.
Indeed. Her comedy timing was excellent - and she could do drama as well as evidenced by the Alan Bennett monologues.
Ah. She was such a wonderful person and a great actor too. She will be greatly missed by everyone who loved her. Anyone whom Alan Bennett wrote for could only be judged as totally professional.
My husband really disliked the programme Hetty Wainthrop in which she starred but I loved it. If I can find a repeat then it has to be watched
She attended church every week. May she wing her way to a deserved rest amongst all the other great actors who are also no longer with us, except on celluloid- although I doubt that has been used recently but you all know what I mean
Sad to hear the news, part of growing up during her era.
Her rendition of A Woman of no Importance is brilliant.RIP
I only knew Patricia Routledge as Mrs. Bouquet, until now, here on SF. And after just watching a film - Anybody’s Nightmare - in which she portrayed a Mrs Bowler, convicted wrongly of the murder of her late husband’s aunt - life imprisonment - reported in the Guardian 24 years ago. Even though she wasn’t playing Mrs. Bouquet in this film, I could still hear and see Mrs. Bouquet!

To see her as Mrs Bouquet you wouldn’t imagine how good she could be in serious roles.
That’s why they call it acting ![]()
Lovely memoir here
