Robot mower

It perhaps comes down to time, if someone has a hectare of land and a full time job a robot may suit them as it is one less thing to have to do giving more time to focus on work or more enjoyable things.

I’m going to complain. As the Husqvarna has a promnent ā€œHā€ on it we were pondering a name &…

…we were watching Breaking Bad at the time, but the main thing is that the robot behaves to it’s own random/not random mowing pattern i.e. an uncertainty principal.

In my technological innocence, I assumed that our robo mower, Cedders, had a cunning plan to mow the entire lawn, whilst fooling us humans into thinking it’s making purely random moves. Do people think there is a genuine masterplan/algorithm that enables their robo mower to systematically and methodically mow the entire lawn, or is it literally utterly random and by luck that it actually does…?

People thought that of their pool cleaning robots but in reality they took a slightly curved path which hopefully meant covering all of the pool which most didnt even given extra hours of run time.

If I sit and watch my robot window cleaner long enough the movements do make sense…

Is there a pool cleaner that could concentrate on hoovering leaves from the surface of a pond? It is the only cleaning operation I do there and is almost impossible to do completely. This is because as my net travels through the water it scatters all the other leaves far and wide, even sinking some of them, only to surface later somewhere else. :slightly_frowning_face:

There’s that word again! :joy:

I believe the Spardo LeafVac© Mark1 would be entirely suited to this task. Sadly, I believe that production stopped after construction of the prototype

Yes David, a low cost manual one I saw at the Lyon trade show, made by Dad in his shed but worked well on the video. I will see if I can find the info.

 No shed involved, just lots of muscling, the pole does extend but the extension gets shorter after each use due to octogenarian arm weakening. :worried:

This was so light it would not be a problem I am sure. Will try to find the details.
Here we go.

I don’t think so. Ours will sometimes drive to a distant point from base before starting to cut, as if it retains some memory of where it’s been.

Robots definitely detect areas where more or les effort is required. If ours finds a denser patch it will perform a circular cut to even things up before moving on to it’s normal bouncing from boundary to boundary, although sometimes he does stop in mid-course & head off elsewhere for no reason that I can see.

I like SJ find them a godsend. If you only have 2 or 3 articles and have to stand and wait while Ethel packs all her shopping, and then spends 5 minutes trying to find her debit card and then proceeds to hold a conversation with the cashier about the kids, grandkids and the neighbours, A self service till is a godsend.

Don’t we all?

Depends on the intensity of your jungle. There are remote control petrol or diesel mowers available, that do an excellent job, albeit also pricey. I havent seen any of these robot mowers that can deal with a jungle.

What about Jean-jacques? Far worse than Ethel as he can’t remember where he put his cheque book, or his glasses.

That looks very interesting, it might make the job easier even allowing for the non level surrounds, trees in the way and the non-uniform shape. I’ll check it out.

It might even take advantage of the removal of the 2 bridges which used to be useful for reaching the middle but would be in the way with this.

Edit: Hmm, €69 on Amazon but not sold or despatched by them. Had some bad experiences with MarketPlace sellers so needs thinking about. No evaluations on Amazon and all but one good on their website but, not sure all of them refer to this product. Suspicious. I’ll have to think about it.

Well we have ordered a robot mower from Amazon fr. Can’t wait to see how it performs or how much trouble it will be to set up. Watch this space.

This is one of the great things about SF: people giving feedback about stuff like this. Which one did you go for? I bought a robot vacuum cleaner from Amazon (on sale) but the cat wasn’t keen and the cassette for the dust was minuscule.

I’ve already decided - unless fibre arrives - that Starlink is the way to go for internet!

Thanks Rocam. Any idea of what price range you would be talking about? We are getting the jungle hacked back so maybe it will just have to cope with rough terrain. We will see. Think now the weather has cooled sufficiently we might get most of it all cut down and back by the weekend, or is that hopeful thinking!?!?
