I read Akenfield many years ago and loved the dramatisation, I particularly remember the scene, at the end of harvest when all the farmworkers are walking a cross the fields shouting “largesse”. If you haven’t read it, it is a beautiful evocation of country life and I heartily recommend it. ‘Aftermath: Selected Writings 1960-2010’ his newest publication is published by Black Dog Books.
