Roulottes ideas?

Hello everyone. Has anybody put a roulotte on their land? We are thinking of it (or maybe two) for family as whilst we love them, we hate them being in our house when they visit. Especially as we have only been back home in France for four weeks and we are just settling into the house and our routine. Any ideas on pros and cons, permissions required, running water and electric in, loo??? Thank you

You will need to discuss with Marie, but if your land is not agricultural or protected in other ways it should be possible as an “extension” to your house as long as under 20m2 quite easily using a déclaration prélable.

(You can have a roulotte without, but only for three months - like all those caravans you see on people’s drive all year round )

Personally I fancy a Tiny House to run away to (not a real Tiny House, but locally made cheaper version,)

Thank you. It is as i thought. As a further idea or alternative we do have a cottage in our garden which could do the same job for family. Not bad condition. Expect the same rules would apply re 20m2.

BTW is that m2 au sol or total?

Both are options. Suspect both might be roughly same cost to do overall. Would like to opt for best as would like family to be in their own space

If you already have a cottage and all you would be doing is renovation then much less of an issue! Unless you plan to extend it hugely?

Have just one constuction in the garden to maintain rathet than two sounds more sensible to me.

Ah Jane. Thanks. We are thinking the same. Only for sleeping do not in house. Be nice for them and us. Easy too. Thank you

I love my family dearly, but when I go to the UK I don’ stay with them!

Me too but there are limits when they come for two weeks or more.

Would like to ask further please. The cottage is under 20m2 on the floor but has a mezanine. Do you think we could do both? Or is it 20m2 overall?

I think it’s au sol when they talk about measurements but I could be wrong/out of date.

I dont know either but would like to know. Thanks

If you find out, I would like to know also. I will sit down with our Maire on my next trip as I need a simple preable or not.
Also if there is a normal restriction on height. UK we would have an eaves height and an overall height for permitted development or we would have to go through planning permission.
