Running a gite through AE

Hi, i'm just going through the process to register as an AE doing admin work but next year we plan to start renting out our gite...would I be able to simply add this?

Thanks

Hi Claire . My 'better half' is registered as AE. For teaching English in schools, after school clubs , French & Dog training (IMDT qualified there).

We have two gites. They don't need to be noted on the AE side of things. We registered them at our Prefecture & once we had a 'number' we also registered with that at out local Mairie. Thats it. We now get sent the forms to fill in for the Taxe-sejour. Also the Mairie sends us enquiries from time to time about availability following enquiries for gites holidqys they receive. That said 99 percent of custom is english from our website.

When doing our tax return we simply add the amount the gites made during that tax year. As we have just 2 gites, they are not considered a 'business' so not taxable.... Well not quite, they make us pay a 'contribution sociale' which goes to local authorities to fund up keep of street lighting, roadside furniture etc. So they 'get you' one way or another!

Before making things over complicated and registering under AE, speak with your local Prefecture and see what they require.

As I'm sure you've learnt, advise like this may not apply exactly in your department.... As they all seem to interpret things 'to fit them'.

Keep it simple!

Finally (tongue in cheek bit) you could do 'the english thing' and just run 'em for cash..... like too many do. I couldn't sleep at night if I'd done it that way.

Good luck, hope this helps.
