We have been offer by our neighbour some old window frames for our log burner. At the risk of sound stupid ,can anyone please tell me if it is safe to burn wood with paint on?
Painted wood, even if it's "old" gives off a number of hazardous / toxic gasses when burnt in a stove and it's not advised in general. However, if it's not too much and your stove is well installed this shouldn't be a problem. If it's pine or another type of resinous wood you can use it to start up the fire as it burns very quickly.
