I certainly wouldn’t condone speeding. I do find it frustrating when people claim to have been caught speeding just a couple of kph over the limit etc as this I very much doubt - there is a generous margin.
When I was caught recently it was at 62 in a 50, the 62 was probably showing as 64 on the speedometer. Clearly my fault, no wingeing and no excuses.
You make speeding sound like it is an abhorrent crime.
My elderly French inlaws keep getting speading tickets. They are not criminals’ they respect the law and they are certainly not boy racers. They go shopping or when out and about sometimes slip above the speed limit by a few km/h… And then get fined. It is so unfair.
And bringing it back to the title of the thread, they are not involved in corruption.
Driving in France is hard enough keeping insane nutters at bay without cameras to deal with.
I think we are forgetting the point of speed limits. A speeding car, or a motorcycle, is a danger to life, not only the driver’s but to others.
The speed limit is to protect life. Humans are not good at reacting to the unexpected at speed. Even less as they age. Slow and steady, much better but not only 2 metres away from the vehicle in front.
