In the last couple of months we have poor to intermittent , to non reception on our HD channels . All the other channels are still good. I find it worrying that only HD channels will be available in the near future.
We are using a Humax sat receiver. I don’t think dish is out of line - all other channels are perfect !
Anyone else getting these problems ? Can anyone suggest a solution ?
We have also noticed a drop in our signal. As always check for trees etc obscuring the view of the dish.
The current endless showers seem to reduce the signal dramatically.
You could have the alignment of the dish checked and if all ok you may need to increase the size of the dish.
When I installed a new Manhattan evryething worked fine except for Channel 4 HD 104. I was advised on here to change my UK postcode from Nottingham to London and it became fine straight away. Not sure it would work if you are losing several channels or if you are on London anyway, but otherwise worth a try.
It will be the dish - cables or connectors.
HD channels are more sensitive - if your getting SD channels but HD is flaky the dish is slightly out is most likely. SD is quite forgiving - HD isn’t. It’s all digital now - unlike old school TV it doesn’t go grainy when the signals weak it works or it doesnt
That’s the first check - after that LNBs and cable.
The constant rain won’t be helping if your on the edge with the dish alignment
Where abouts in France are you, what is your dish size and what model of Humax receiver do you have ?
There is a thing called ‘summer fade’ which can affect your reception if you have very marginal reception conditions, hence my questions, although there can be many other causes.
Edit: A very common cause of these sort of reception issues in marginal signal situations is an incorrect setting of the LNB skew. I recently experimented at my location with setting the skew incorrectly and my reception went from rock solid to dodgy and then to no reception so this can definitely be an issue. To set the skew correctly, use this website
This is one of the few websites that will give you a true value for skew for the Astra 28 group of satellites. Enter your location and select the satellite ‘28.2 Astra 2E …’. for me, I get a skew value of -17.4 degrees. A negative skew is anti-clockwise when facing the dish. Set it as accurately as you can - I use a spirit level app on my phone.
Thank you for your suggestions. I will arrange a visit from a tv satellite specialist.
Very Strange - now that the weather has improved - no problems on any of the HD channels last night !
That is the first time for weeks .
How is your reception today @interstate750 ? I ask as the summer high pressure we have can make reception challenging. I have a few dodgy channels today.
Yes - you are correct - we also had a few dodgy channels yesterday .
