I don’t know what yours features but ours always involves a trip to the market for fresh fruit and veg, and eggs, and bread, and of course, the weekly galette saucisse.
Then it’s lawn mowing (today at least!) and cleaning (usually).
I am not a manically house proud type by any means but with a very hairy ginger cat and a dog and lots of people traipsing in and out, needs must.
But this is my secret weapon. I love it because there’s nothing to fail / break down / it doesn’t use any electricity (ideal for those red days!) and it stops the place from getting too grubby in between major clean ups.
Happy Saturday everyone whatever you are up to!

Gosh.
Brings back memories… (although mine was a Bex Bissell about 150 years ago)
I agree, very useful piece of kit.
All things come around! They fell out of favour with arrival of lighter weight vacuum cleaners, but are so popular again now. Not expensive, and no maintenance.
I have been to Sainsbury’s, and done a tour of the garden checking for holes in the fencing, ready for the arrival of my partner Di (She Whose Views Must be Taken Into Consideration) on Thursday, plus (more relevantly) her miniature schnauzer, Luna, who has more escape experience than the entire complement of Stalag Luft III… ![]()
I have had to build a fence / gate across one corner of the garden to stop her (the dog, not Di!) wandering off into the sunset. It took me about a week to do, on and off.
Oh and I sent some photos off to a client.
I’m laying LVT in the studio flat ![]()
Nice work. ![]()
Have we seen a photo of Luna? Miniature schnauzers are very cute.
I’m back from shooting the next door neighbour’s dog.
He’s old, with serious joint problems and they realised that he needs to be put to sleep before he becomes really sick. Although they have lots of photos with him individually, they don’t have any with the three of them together, so asked if I’d take some pictures this morning before he’s put to sleep this afternoon.
We have friends from Sussex over this afternoon, staying for dinner tonight. A walk was planned but precipitation has arrived after a lovely sunny (but cold) morning.
Monthly trip to Rodez to get more coffee beans (Yrgacheffe), exotic salad leaves on the market and a demie of Lagunitas IPA. Also a good excuse to put on smarter clothes and enjoy seeing lots of other people in decent threads.
But best of all noticed that the next exhibition at the Musée Soulages is one of my longtime favourite artists, Hiroshi Sugimoto : a master of the open shutter.
Nice coffee but bloody expensive. I have to try to limit myself to (just) under €20/kilo for beans, usually Italian.
I saw next door’s cat with a hole in his cheek. Turned out he had a burst abscess (we told his owners, she took him to the vet and they kept him in overnight). I think they must have had to sew his cheek back together.
Today he’s back home, but confined to barracks for 10 days.
This morning, we went to a book signing at the Bioparc.
An alarming post until I read a bit more
Got a freestanding towel rail for the kitchen. It’s in the form of a flat pack. Hasn’t taken long, honest…
I was also a little concerned
Me too!
Mark, I’ve seen these beans on Amazon.fr Amazon.fr and wondered how much of the Earl Grey Tea flavour you can taste or smell. I really hate tea and I especially don’t like the aroma of Earl Grey. That is what’s putting me off at the moment.
Thank you.
Hi Rachel,
I’m not a tea drinker so if there is any taste of Earl Grey, it must be very faint. Yrgacheffe usually gets very high ratings in international tastings, so it’s a bit more pricey than many coffees, but not crazily expensive.
It’s complex and fragrant and is normally 3 on a roasting scale - espresso being 5. It’s been my go-to morning coffee for many years, I make it in an AeroPress and drink it allongé without sugar.
Thank you for this. Sometimes, if I fancy something, no matter if it costs more than the norm, I buy it. So I think I’m going to give this a go cos I like the sound if it! ![]()
@cat We also have an example of your secret weapon as it is suitable for use by someone with arthritic hands that finds a standard vacuum cleaner hard / painful to manipulate. Very effective and much quieter than the electric devices.
My mum had one of these
