Serious stuff is happening under Führer Trump

I’m currently wondering how long it will be before they have announced that only white males can vote, own property or run businesses.

And, perhaps, if your ancestry is Black but you look a bit too pale skinned for it to be obvious, you will have to wear a bright yellow “B” patch on your clothes so that there is no doubt.

Absolutely and I am conscious of being very careful to not confuse Trump with the country in criticism. We must remember that around half of the voting population there did not vote for him.

@David_Spardo over half of the voters voted for someone else, they just didn’t all vote for Harris. He keeps insisting that he has a mandate, but his margin of victory was actually the fifth smallest since 1900. Then there were all of the Americans who didn’t bother to vote…

***king Trump would make a great pantomime dame appearing as a grotesque parody of Boris Johnson being even less truthful, more extreme and having even less manageable hair. The following clip is what a true leader looks like. Sorry for the length but worth listening to in full.

I read a suggestion somewhere that after Trudeau steps down, he should be made the ambassador to the US.

The problem is that our system of government has relied on those in power basically being decent and/or at least having some interest in governing but because that has hitherto been the case there are insufficient, in some cases no, protections for when it ceases to be and someone who merely wants to use the gig for their own ends manages to con their way to the top.

I think that’s inherent in democracy, isn’t it? It’s meant to be a cooperative system where everyone basically works together to achieve a consensus most of the time, and both governors and governed agree on the rule of law being paramount.

And yes if you take that fundamental approach away you get oligarchic or authoritarian rule.

But the point is also that the population should be able to choose not to have lying, cheating, self-seeking individuals in positions of power, yet they are apparently so easily manipulated that they vote for such creatures. It’s not a one-way ticket.

Well, yes - but that doesn’t stop including more checks and balances and llimits on individual power. Starting with the fact that it is insane the USA allows a convicted felon to run for its highest office, or allows one party to “poison” the SCOTUS bench.

It’s a one way ticket when the lying, cheating, self-seeking individuals use their positions to of power to remove the population’s choice in the matter of their leader.

A facepalm isn’t enough when they don’t know the difference between transgenic and transgender.

Donald Trump was 'right as usual '.

I think decent may be a stretch for many of them. Not absolute bastards may be closer.

Wasn’t there an incidence in the UK years back where a paediatrician was attacked because some numbskulls could not tell the difference between a word for a medical speciality and a paedophile

Stupidity is not exclusive to America.

Indeed.

@Ancient_Mariner if it wasn’t so tragic, it would be hilarious.

Yes there was.
The percentage of voters in the USA who are illiterate is staggering.

I’d be interested to read the statistics behind that.

It’s pretty easy to look up, literacy rate in the US is 79% compared with 99% in France.

To be fair they are probably a lot of people in the US who’s first language is not English but it’s a bit damming all the same.

How is literacy rate defined?
