I’ve just been through 10 years of the hobbies section and no sewing thread! I have sewed on and off since I was a teen. I’ve just had an ‘off’ for a good many years (the last big project was researching and making medievil costumes for all of us for a village fete in 2028!!). I’ve done a few aprons and little bits since then, but nothing much.
This week we picked up a ‘new’ desk on LBC so I now have somewhere to sew again! Just started watching this years sewing bee which has also inspired me! So my machine is out on this hot afternoon, just doing some repairs!
I’ve also had my first play with the coolest invention ever (thanks Aliexpress!!). No more lost bobbins!!
No idea what that is, but it does look cool! I’ve yet to set up a work area in new house so am just doing little bits of visible mending.
and yes liking SB this year, especially Anna. And even more so as she used Hapazome for that fabric which I do too. Very good calming activity pounding fabric with rocks. I’m actually more into creating fabrics and ecoprinting, but then have to sew to use them for something.
They’re little silicon things, the fat end goes into you thread (because its flexible fits any size), then your bobbin goes on top, no more lost and tangled bobbins!
Arrggghhh spoiler . I’m only up to number 2! Yes Anna is good! I also like the girl with glasses that did the lovely pink godet dress.

I’ve seen them around for ages on blogs / Sewing Bee ect, thought they looked great but never had any. I’m taking up a curtain (that’s been trailing for at least 2 years ) and what a joy and revelation!! No more pinning for me!!!
I sew too. I love the Sewing Bee. My favourite creation was the transformation dress, by the woman who went on to win.
I make trousers, occasionally dresses and I enjoy quilting. I want to be a bit more adventurous in this department and actually create scenes. I use a Janome machine.
I am watching the current series. I agree Anna appears to be the most creative. Though the Irish woman is also good. I’m not a fan of the woman ( well her projects anyway) who does everything in pink, a bit old fashioned.
I did just buy the most fabulous silk cotton fabric in the UK. At a place called The Fancy Silk store in Birmingham, its 3 floors jam packed with fabric at pretty good prices.
I was making an Audrey Hepburn swing dress, all went well until I put the zip in the fitted bodice, unfortunately the fabric was just too fine and the top neck edge flopped out. I tried every trick I know, to no avail, so it is becoming a swing skirt. Sad, but my mistake, I’ll know next time.
@Arcalia - I think it’s very nice. I wish I could make one half as nice as that. I can only sew buttons on and darn socks. Anything else and I’m absolutely flipping useless
Thank you both, it is what I suspected but did not want to put my foot in it. A dress which flares revealing a little more of the wearer’s legs, to the delight of watching male eyes.
I know little about sewing hut wouldn’t the bodice have been lined, possibly interlined as well and with facings around neck and armholes that would have stiffened the fabric enough for a zip?
