But how did all the parked cars get there?
I’d have thought the repeated word ‘MOTOS’ in 40cm high letters would be a bit of a clue
Not everyone realises you can click to enlarge forum images I think.
Ah but we bikers know these tricks, Chris…
I always reduce my SF photos to 1000 pixels wide or 750 high at 72 dpi.
The DPI value doesn’t matter - only the height and width in pixels is relevant for web graphics.
DPI is just a default value embedded in digital files to determine how big they will print if no print scaling is specified in the software print dialog box (which it invariably is).
DPI (or more properly PPI, pixels per inch) had some relevance when digital files were created from scanned negatives or transparencies - with images created directly in a digital camera it’s a fairly meaningless setting.
DPI (dots per inch) should be used to refer to the detail rendering ability of a printing device, but it has become irretrievably confused with PPI.
True, but it’s a way of thinking and usefully mentally distinguishing web and print versions of an image for instance, I append ‘72’ to web version of a file. I began lecturing in digital media in the late Eighties and have carried over much from that time - still instinctively use many keyboard commands from pre-WIMP days.
It doesn’t really do even that though - the PPI value embedded in an image file is just a marker - it doesn’t actually do anything!
A 6000 x 4000 pixel image is the same whether it’s labelled as 72 PPI or 300 PPI - a web browser will ignore the PPI value, and when printing the print settings (which you can’t avoid making in modern software) will override it.
In the dim distant past, a primitive desktop publishing program might make use of the embedded PPI value to determine the size on page of an image, but not any more. If you drop two copies of an image into Adobe InDesign, both the same pixel dimensions with one tagged as 72PPI and the other 240PPI, they drop in at the same size.
If we are swapping qualifications, so did I - I ran a software training company and taught Photoshop, desktop publishing, web design and Powerpoint, and co-authored a book on desktop publishing in the 80s.
(Many apologies to regular readers for this entirely irrelevant major thread hijack! Mark and I will go and stand in the corner and hang our heads in shame!)
It’s actually slightly funny. Tech has moved on, and without an immediate interest in these things it’s hard to stay up to date. Modern computing has largely made file size and dpi/ppi irrelevant because images are large and highly detailed, but computers and memory are fast enough that size isn’t something to be anxious about any more.
No that’s @suePJ’s department?
We are professionals
Oh Bummer
I was hoping to attend but will be in Germany until the 13th.
My mother finally moved into a senior residence this week.
So sorry I was looking forward to meeting you in the flesh.
Have fun!
Hey did you email me and reserve ? Or not ?! Thanks xx
No I didnt reserve. My mothers situation meant I was sort of sitting on a packed bag.
She finally moved this week but my trip back to France is on the 13th. So I will miss the lunch.
Sadly - I was hoping to come on short notice and meet in the flesh…
Have a great time
Bettina
Looking forward to meeting everyone tomorrow! Safe travels everyone!
I think my smugness was misplaced - Google Street View was lying to me - the view with the parked cars and motorcycles bay was from 3 years ago - that side road right by the restaurant seems to be 100% cyclists only now.
It looks like the cool kids park their motos on the pavement on the other side of the road outside the TV7 TV station building…
Anyway, looking forward to seeing the SF Massive tomorrow!
Have fun everyone. Photos please.
Hope it all goes well tomorrow, meeting up. We’ll expect you to be live-streaming it from 11am.
Have a great lunch, best behaviour and no food fights:wink:
Have fun! I’ll be thinking of you while marking 108 exams
