Sight test

It turns out our local Krys don’t do sight tests, just supply the spectacles. Having seen their shop, I know why gegs cost so much.

They suggested I go to Tours, which is an hour away.

What sort of establishment provides sight tests?

I had an eye test at Optical Center who seem to have a lot of branches. Optic 2000 do them as well but I think they may only be in the Narbonne area.

Surely you have more than just the one, no?

Come to Limoux. We are tripping over them!

Normally speaking, an ophtalmologue checks your eye health and gives you a prescription for glasses. Some opticians do them but seeing an ophtalmo is normally recommended as they can check for underlying visual problems more throroughly than an optician can. It’s different from the UK.

you want " opticiens optométristes" who will check your current prescription is correct, and then sell you the glasses you choose. :+1:

Let Google by your guide… put in your nearest reasonable town and the magic words “opticiens optométristes” :crossed_fingers:

Our Optic 2000 in Carcassonne was taken over by Krys. Optic 2000 were really good, but Krys are complete idiots. OH got glasses recently at the new Krys and even though she gave them her CV and mutuelle and asked for 100% sante they somehow didn’t register them when she ordered them. As a result, CPAM don’t know about the purchase and she can’t get any refund. Krys just shrugged thir shoulders and said they can’t do anything :rage:

You could also try searching for a ‘Centre Ophtalmologique’ near your local town. The one that we use does all the appointment making online which makes life a lot easier.

that is ghastly and surely not correct behaviour by Krys !

Why didn’t Krys inform your OH how much the glasses would be costing. She would surely have needed to agree before they went ahead and ordered things.

If she wasn’t informed and therefore didn’t agree… Krys don’t have a leg to stand on.

My local optician has always shown me a printout of how the price is arrived at, how much is paid by the State, how much by Mutuelle and how much (if anything) will be left for me to pay…
and if I am in agreement, I sign, then things move forward…
I keep my copy of the “quote” and only pay (if necessary) when the glasses are delivered
