Sim card contract

Hi looking for a sim card contract mainly for French and English calls do not need a lot of data advice please

We’ve just taken out a contract for our mobile phone with Reglo https://www.reglomobile.fr/.
and we currently pay 4.95€ a month with free calls to UK included as well as within France. We get 10GB data which we use mainly for the google maps in the car. You get a monthly consumption statement. Would highly recommend it.

Hi Rachel05 thank you, that sounds perfect to me :wine_glass:

Nrjmobile.fr seems to have taken over as tbe cheapest. It runs on the Bouygues network (always ask locally what coverage is like if you’re not at least in a majpr town).

For calls such as to UK I use Skype so I do take a small amount of data just for that.

I’m currently paying 1 euro per month with nrjmobile.fr for unlimited calls and tiny data. But I coud have splurged and paid 2 euros per month for a bit more data.

Should that be nrjmobile.fr ?

Oops. Ta Brian. Now corrected.

Hi Rachel, which Reglo contract is this? Just looked on their fiche tarifaire and it seems that with the 4.95 one you have to top up a ‘pass monde’ which only gives you discounted calls to the UK, not free calls. Am I missing something?

Red (run by SFR) have a contract for €2.99 / month which includes unlimited calls within France and 5 GB data. There is the option to pay €1/month extra for unlimited calls to landlines in Europe, including the UK.

(If you ever travel to the US, Canada, Switzerland or Andorra there is also the option to buy unlimited calls and 20 GB data to use while you’re there for €5, which is a bargain).

@tc123 - here is a translated copy of my contract. I took it out at the end of May so maybe that offer has changed but I would still recommend reglo.

That looks handy. Since ditching my UK sim card and the 1€/p.m. a/c with ‘Free’, my Sosh calls to UK get cut off at about 15-20 mins and then after 30 secs when trying to call again.

All my UK pals are on Wazzapp except by dear old joanna-basher George

who, at 93 y.o. is still tickling the ivories but is not yet a smart phone user.

That Reglo deal now looks like this.

The unlimited calls do include R-U. Still looks a good deal. I hope I can bale out of Sosh without faff.

Also handy Avec plus de 600 centres E.Leclerc en France, vous avez également la garantie d’un service de proximité humain et accessible, pour des conseils personnalisés et pour vous accompagner dans l’utilisation de votre offre et de votre téléphone au quotidien.

Or a smartphone user

Did they manage the termination of your previous contract and switch you to Reglo?

Lebara? 100 minutes of international calls each month some data depending on what option you choose. Cheapest deals (in the UK) are from comparison sites not direct. From around £1.99 pm

Yes @captainendeavour - they did everything. We got the number (forget what it’s called) to allow us to our old mobile number and they did the rest and it was all done online. We could have gone into the local leclerc though but it wasn’t necessary. The SIM card was sent through the post and we were sent an email so we could activate the card. It was so simple even for the two of us who are not very tech-minded.
BTW - is your pal George really 93? He doesn’t look a day over 75 and he looks such a jolly chap!

Worth specifying that the Reglo offer includes unlimited calls when you are in the UK (which most operators offer under European roaming) and not calls to the UK from France (unless I’ve misunderstood something?)

I don’t read the t & c like that. It looks like calls to wherever in Europe/DOMs from wherever you are in ‘Europe’ or the DOMs

Communications in Europe and the French overseas departments will be deducted within the limits of the usage included in your plan or in your extension. Beyond this, usage will be deducted according to the terms of the Price List if the balance of your Réglo Mobile account allows it: Europe: …, Scotland, …, Northern Ireland, …United Kingdom,

Note that they specify ‘Scotland’ and Northern Ireland as well as ‘UK’ . The SNP would be delighted, as would Sinn Fien.

That [listing just the UK] is ‘Zone 1’ [see below]

To FR and when in Z1 - unlimited.

But @Rachel05 will be ale to confirm by now, I expect.

@captainendeavour - As yet, we’ve not used the mobile to phone the UK (for the very few calls we make, we use our landline with free calls to UK via Orange) but I did notice that on the detailed consumption statement from Reglo it showed the call we made to the Orange/FT English speaking help line as an international voice call

.

And it has it at ‘inclus’. :grinning:

That number for retaining existing number is a R.I.O. I called it 7 times for a total of +/- 11 mins trying to decipher the code being read out. ‘B’ and ‘D’ were a problem for me.

I then noticed that I had received 6 SMS with the code in b & w.

Also… WARNING! to anyone going thru’ this rigmarole - although the number being read out includes 'espace’ and the SMS did have spaces in the code, the accepted code format in the box does not have spaces. I tried ‘space’. I tried ‘-’. Somehow the code filled with no spaces and I was in.

I wish there were i/net deals as reasonable as this. I’m still paying €30.99 p.m. for the bare basics.

The table that you posted comes under the headline ‘Vous êtes à l’étranger’ ie ‘You are abroad’ - not in France - when you make the call.

For example, if I’m in Germany I can make unlimited calls to French numbers AND to German numbers as well but the usual costs for calling the UK apply.

If I’m in the UK I can make unlimited calls to French numbers AND British numbers, but usual costs for calling Germany (or elsewhere) apply.

If I’m in France then I have to pay to call other countries.

This is how EU roaming works, as far as I understand it, and it applies to all operators. The principle is that the terms of your phone contract apply in all member states and you can use your phone there as you would at home. (I look at these things much too often and I’ve not yet seen a French mobile operator who has stopped treating the UK like a member state).

As for Rachel’s situation it seems she signed up when they were offering free calls from France to the UK.

30.99 for just basic internet is a bit on the high side, if you’re willing to shop around have a look at Red or Sosh, both are quite a bit cheaper than that for a ‘box only’ arrangement (whether your line is fibre or adsl)
