Murdoch attempt to kill the BBC?
No doubt with added dead cat to detract from news they’d rather not be scrutinised too much - such as the fact that the Covid enquiry still does not have Johnson’s WhatsApp messages, or the fact that the interest rate rises are set to impoverish a million people to the tune of £500 a month or more - to no-one’s benefit (except a few already rich w, err, bankers who will soon be richer).
Sorry Billy, I’m not a rich banker (well maybe I am and never realised). If my 300K france house buying fund has gone down 10% by inflation this year and 20% by the pound depreciating against the euro since brexit then the uptick in my savings income is welcomed by me.
I have a feeling that if UK interest rates immediately tracked UK inflation each month we may not have been here at such high levels.
My pension savings have helped loads of people buy their houses - now I have to lose out, when their houses will be up another 10% next year?
Savings (I don’t mean stock market investments) should be protected, but it seems it’s us simple people not playing the markets which are being stuffed…
edit - totally agree with the Murdoch part of your post though, the aim is to completely destroy UK free public to air TV, so sky can 100% increase profits. Total tory story scam, just like NHS.

I do regret Jeremy Vine shaming his colleagues (or their wives, as it turns out) into naming the person involved. I imagine it must be uncomfortable for those colleagues, but not that difficult for them to say - should they choose to descent to the Twittersphere (which level of the Inferno is that?) - that “It wasn’t me”.
He does have a long history of severe depression ,We will have to see if that becomes an explanation or an excuse or what
I was hoping it was not Huw Edwards, and find it now all very sad.

Here’s a bit more from the Met police’s Specialist Crime Command, who say they have now concluded their assessment and have determined there is no information to indicate that a criminal offence has been committed.
This should absolutely be the end of the matter and Mr Edwards should immediately get the best lawyer that he can. His reputation has been tarnished but he is in an incredible position now.
I don’t know who is Mr Edwards because I’m not so familiar with UK TV but having read of his wife’s statement in the Guardian earlier, I can only feel sad that a man who clearly has problems has been hounded by the gutter press and is likely the vulnerable target of people eager to make money out of such a public smearing.
Trial by social media and then the press.
What is going on in our society when witchhunts like this become the norm?

Had the parents not gone to The Sun, and The Sun not falsely reported that he’d committed a criminal offence by exchanging pictures with a minor (and I’d have assumed that the reason the police investigation was relatively short was partly because the app/ website being mentioned has ID verification for ‘creators’), and then refused to print the person involved outrightly denying any criminal acts and contradicting their own parents (which given this person is a good few years into being an adult at this point makes any sane person wonder why the parents would say anything)… THEN the world of social media wouldn’t have become a dumpster fire (sorry for the Americanism) of people libellously calling random people a paedophile, when the police have seemingly decided no one is, not the person involved or anyone else.
I agrée with @Carol and @kirsteastevenson. Witch hunts happen when someone has a grudge, makes an accusation and then the mob joins in.
The value of your 300k (is that £ or € - I guess £ since you mention exchange rates) “French House Buying Fund” should be measured in € (OK, definitely lost out since Brexit - about 10%, as you say) and the value of French houses (in fact roughly stable since 2007/8 though obviously with regional variation), so I think you are, at least, somewhat immune to UK inflation.
I commend you on having £300k, should get you a nice pad 
However, the average person in the UK has just under £18k in savings whereas the average mortgage debt was £137,934 - so most people are going to be 7 times more negatively impacted by rising interest rates on their mortgage than they are going to be positively benefited by increases in deposit rates.

I thought I was being propositioned this morning whilst minding my own business, waiting for OH, sat in the shade in a car park.
A middle-aged woman came up to me and asked if she could give me her card. Was slightly taken aback as
i) Was expecting to be asked for directions to the market.
ii) Her luridly floral flouncy outfit seemed at odds with my immediate suspicions of her profession.
Nevertheless, politely took her card and immediately discovered she was a Jehovah’s Witness,
Merci madame, mais je suis atheist - made up the French word up on the spot, but nevertheless, she knew instantly what I meant.
Later, looked up atheist - it appears to be feminine regardless of the person’s gender - athée but that seems a bit odd - have radical feminists sabotaged the dictionary?(!)
No doubt some far more knowledgeable SFer like @JaneJones or @vero will explain…
Huw Edwards was the well-known, respected, and touching voice behind Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, estimated to have been watched by 20 million people on BBC tv, and also the voice behind the coronation of Charles III, watched by similar numbers. So much the sadder.
Athée like apogée, caducée, pédigrée, may look feminine but they are all masculine nouns. Like eg agricola, incola, nauta in Latin.

I hope The Sun and the likes of Jeremy Vine etc are now happy, the man is in a mental health facility knowing that both his personal and professional life are in tatters. Have they helped get a serious criminal off the streets or simply destroyed a well respected tv presenter with a complicated personal life and a history of depression?
