Solar by Ian McEwan

Has anybody read this? I've just finished it and really enjoyed it, despite the bad reviews.

Supposedly 'not up to his usual high literary standards' (whatever that means) and 'shouldn't try to be funny' etc. There aren't many books (apart from Ben Elton) that make me laugh out loud, but this one did. Slightly David Lodge but funnier really because it's unexpected. Or maybe I just have a strange sense of humour.

Anyway, five stars from me.

Fiona, I read it recently too and thought it really good but as someone says not his best. having read all before i would agree with that thought. The very early stories are the best and yes funny in a very dark way. Try The Cement Garden, Enduring Love and The Comfort of Strangers.
