Looks like maximum for us will be about 20:20. Would I be right in thinking that, if the sky is clear, it will also be a good moment for spotting the Perseids?
And for those like me who didn’t buy a pair of eclipse glasses when there were loads in the pharmacy here is an alternative

We will be @ Plage de Maldormé with all our kit. Will have a view of 96.3% coverage of the sun 
I asked Chat GPT for time and direction for my location. Just back from reccying a suitable location because it will be very close to horizon.
Considered a trip, especially as the UK is not scheduled for a total eclipse until 23rd September.

There’s another in the EU next year which will be visible from southern Spain, including Gibraltar and northern Morocco.
Everyone and their dogs want to go as well though which makes life a bit difficult accommodation wise.

Rodez predicted to be 96.4%, so we should get something similar, despite some friends wanting us to drive nearly an hour north(!) to watch it there…
Will be the second full eclipse i’ve seen in my life. I was in Kew for the one in the day in London 1997-1999 ish (I think) which was impressive. This one looks as though it will go on longer. Looks like it will be pretty much dark here in France SW.
I’m wondering do we need to worry about cats and dogs panicking

Definitely not. You need proper solar filter specs through which you will be able to see nothing apart from very bright lights.

Having spent the 1999 (?) eclipse in Belgium under cloudy skies, I am taking a keen interest in whether one might actually be able to see the sun in this one. A tree will stop you - the sun is at 6 - 4 degrees above the horizon. Do the trig.

The ICON high resolution models finally arrived these last hours, and they are unfortunately more cloudy than the general ones. We must keep a close eye on it in the days to come.

Online ordering from the big A currently stating a delivery date of Aug 20th! It’s going to be. good 96% here so getting some glasses from the pharmacy tomorrow. Found some dinosaur shaped ones in a box but they turned out to be 3D instead.
If you want to see the Perseids you will need to stay up - the best time will be between midnight and 5am.
And they will appear in the north-east, not west.
The duration of totality varies from a few seconds up to 7 minutes - usually it’s 2-3 minutes.
But the partial eclipse lasts for about 2 hours, so there is plenty of time to see that.
If the weather stays clear here in Cornwall I plan to shoot a timelapse video of the whole thing.
I don’t think so, especially if it’s partial - it probably won;t get dark enough for them to really notice.
You should still see the partial phase though
