Something extraordinary is happening in America

why not just interact with people in good faith even if you don’t share their views?

Isn’t that the whole basis for the court system, at least in the UK anyway?
Bet you wouldn’t appreciate being convicted without evidence of your innocence.

perhaps it is, but people on internet forums don’t have to follow that procedure to have a normal conversation or debate. Constantly demanding evidence is a tactic to derail a conversation. Taken to its logical extreme we wouldn’t be able to communicate with each other at all

As a 70-year-old American Democrat who’s lived here for 11 years, I don’t feel SF is the appropriate forum for this type of political discussion or banter regardless of your views. Please share with friends, foes, and family outside. It serves no purpose here other than to incite or promote reactions. There’s no upside imo.

@mikep go somewhere else for your grandstanding…

Hold that feeling Judy - it’ll remind you that you have less control over what other people say than you would like : ) have a nice day

On the contrary, this is a politics thread & I have never known SF to censure free speech if polite. There’s been a lack of RW posters on here, most have been either aggressive and shot down in flames, had no discussional / debating talents
@mikep go somewhere else for your grandstanding…” Is saying F’ck Off from here! Not nice to a fellow member of SF! I’ll defend his right to post as I will yours even if I don’t agree with either of your views!

Yes, I would’ve liked to have said that actually. You did me the favor.

I don’t appreciate others who are not American commenting or espousing their views on American politics. Just as I would not comment on UK political events etc. I’m not qualified to do so.

Judy, you need to get used to the idea that you can’t control what other people say.

My personal opinion on the subject of posting.

Thank you Wozza. Although I don’t think of myself as ‘RW’, I’m a libertarian

That’s not the point. You are a disruptor. Period.

It’s all speculation and conjecture anyway. Go for it. I’m not playing the silly game.

Judy, am I telling you what you can or can’t say or talk about?

In your former life you were a school teacher - amirite?

Yikes! Respectfully, you may be treading water a bit here. This is a forum whose majority appear to be foreign nationals living in France. Plenty of views aired on France, UK, EU and other parts of the world because we do not exist in a bubble.

My education and life has taught me that we are all connected and it is well to know what is going on, and try to understand, elsewhere. Open discussion is part of this, as long as it is polite in word and tone and does not contravene laws of conduct.

Anyone who objects to this freedom of expression would perhaps be happier muting threads that upset them. Sometimes, but not always, silence is the best reply.

Oiy!

Are you trying to be rude or just aimlessly offensive?

Does it need to be either/or?

Such a flurry of replies. I’ll content myself to say I agree with all except @micep and @judyk , and to the latter I would say I take great exception to your desire to not even discuss American subjects. Like it or not what happens there affects almost all of us and it ill behoves you to come here and stop us doing so.
