Something extraordinary is happening in America

Please don’t make personal attacks on other forum members. If you can’t figure out how to make a point politely, don’t make it.

More generally almost anything goes on SF as long as it is legal, semi-decent and polite. If you don’t wish to read posts on politics (which I’m afraid does tend to be about UK or US politics) then mute the topic.

Since eliza has not chimed in during the last hour, I’m going to hazard a guess that it is the OP–mike–she’s talking about, not John Scully.

I feel the same way she does, that the OP is either a Russian bot or an unbelievably naive individual. I don’t understand how anyone can idolize the incoming president.

If mikep indeed lives in France, then I would encourage him to move to the US for the next four years and see what freedoms he stands to gain and what he would lose.

He does and he’s genuine, I doxxed him for a bit of fun the other week. Won’t say how, but it wasn’t by following the link he’s put from his avatar - didn’t think of doing that!

Oh yes, you did. Ha ha. How do the moderators stand on doxxing I wonder?

Suspect Eliza was referring to me, not John, who could hardly be described as a right-wing troll.

Bit of a stretch to describe a post about politics in the Politics category as “off topic”

Can you name a freedom I would lose by moving from France to the US?

Can you name a freedom I would lose by moving from France to the US?

Except, I suspect you don’t have freedom to do that, whereas I do, but wouldn’t!

Not sure that quite answers my question, but never mind, and good for you

Where the hell did you spring from?
Are you a Troll? After all, you have been on here for a few hours, and you are already attacking a member not known for his RW views & you are trying to tell moderators what to do. FFS! You haven’t blown in on a breeze have you, more of storm of you’re own making.
We are mostly Europeans here, with more from the other side of the pond joining. We Europeans believe in freedom of speech & have experienced dictatures in our parents’ living histories. Don’t try it here coz if you do you’ll be out on your ear.
I won’t wish you welcome here for the moment ( may do later) because you come over as a right Berkeley.

I’ve noticed a few people recently arrive ‘all guns blazing’, making a bit of a fool of themselves and not taking the time to take the temperature of this place before letting every thought in their head emerge on to the screen. I was never quite sure what that was all about, but then I guess there have always those awful bores in the pub, at the party or in the office who are certain they’re the most important person in any room, so maybe it’s just that rather than something more nefarious like trolling or the good old Russian bot farms…

Was thinking about eliza23’s posts … I’ve noticed a temperamental difference between people on the left and people on the right.

Whenever I have a disagreement with a right wing poster, and I do (I know many of you think I am right wing but I’m not, I’m a libertarian - which is more like being a hippie tbh) they very often hold strident views, but they are usually capable of rational discussion and acknowledging the viewpoint of others.

The left on the other hand - so often they’re intolerant and angry. They’re are not interested in discussing anything, their instinct to shut people down if they don’t agree with them. They have no interesting finding ‘common ground’. The most disturbing thing of all, for me, is the language and imagery they use to describe their opponents. So often it is dehumanising and degrading. I find them a bit scary to be perfectly honest.

Nb I’m not saying all this is true of eliza23 btw. She just reminded me of this syndrome

Hey, we’ll have to wait and see, if it’s just some old bloke or dear in the pub.

Yeh, Mike, seems, Dr M bottled out of that one or hasn’t time to reply, unusual for him, usually gives a gr8 in-depth reply worth reading.

On this one can you give example on the posts on here? <

She /he was bang out of order on one posts on this one Mike, see my reply above.

I can’t give an example from this forum, no.

Thanks, Mike, for your honest reply, I couldn’t find any either. But I keep an eye out.

No, if you look the response is directly to me. However we all have varying views on Mike too :slightly_smiling_face:

Jesus, Victimhood now. And why not :joy:

As a US citizen who grew up in a family highly adept at sarcasm, puns, and “dry” English wit, I’ve been the odd woman out many a time as an adult, realizing too late that MAYBE only one person in the group/room “got it”. I am very much looking forward to being amongst “my tribe” when it comes to humor/humour.

The US GOP has spent decades working to dumb-down the electorate. And Fox News is a willing accomplice. Educated (and that does not necessarily mean those who attend/attended uni) people think, and thinking people ask too many questions. That’s not good for a party that wants to control thought and actions.

Unless you’re an American or have spent many years living in the US you’ll have no chance of understanding what goes on in the mind of the average Joe or Jane.
