Sometimes Jules is too clever by half

During the current weather he spends much of his time on the front terrasse were there is no sun and a good chance of a breeze.

I prepare his dinner at 6pm on the dot and when it is down in the frame ready to eat in the kitchen veranda, I open the slider a bit, poke my head out and give the soft ‘come here’ whistle. I am always gratified to see him racing round instantly below my open window and congratulate myself on his instant obedience.

At 5.30 today I opened the slider just to look out and was surprised to see him racing under me round towards the back door. So it isn’t my skill with the lips at all, he is already on the move at the sound of the slider. Ego suitably deflated.

But when he rushed into the kitchen to find me not standing ready to wait for him to sit for the command ‘bon appetit’, but at the computer in my chair, he understood instantly and wheeled round to go outside again, not even pausing to hear my apology.

Our cat is very similar.

He expects his morning grooming straight after we’ve finished breakfast. He stays looking out of his favourite window until he hears me sit it the armchair, at which point he walks through and jumps on the arm of the chair.

Madame mentioned that “AI” can now interpret the thoughts of people who can’t speak. I would pay good money for an app that told me what the cat is thinking.

The Pig has breakfast at 7am and supper at 7pm but is very busy herding people towards his food bowl in the run-up to those times, and carries on after he has been fed. Terrible liar, that cat.
