sometimes, when a subject is being chewed over… again and again… there will always be someone (may be several someones) who disagrees… whether just to keep things on the boil… or whether they really do feel they have a valid argument

My opinion on whether it was ‘minor’ or not is irrelevant David, the police have investigated as instructed and it is their decision not to take things further, those are the facts. The continual daily re-run of this is a total waste of time as DC will not be sacked and even if he were it’s too late because the damage has been done. People now have a choice, use this farce as a ‘green light’ to ignore the rules or continue to obey them which is what I would do.
@malcolm_bowler so that I can begin to understand your rationale in this thread, can you please tell me what your views are on Cummings as the author and principal component of Leave EU.
Not irrelevant Tim, I’m not going to change my mind and I hope that others don’t either just because you consider it minor, which it has not, and those at the top have produced an extravaganza to muddy the waters and tug at heart strings. In my opinion this is something that cannot be ignored and conveniently filed away and moved on from.
Actually David the Durham Police press release describes it as minor as there was no breaching of social distancing, but they are looking purely at the legislation, how they enforced it with others etc. We are looking at the bigger picture the hypocrisy, the lies DCs role in formulating the rules etc
I don’t believe I actually gave my opinion David, I was merely quoting the official police line. If you and others want to get exercised about something that happened in another country and over which you have no control be my guest, I’m more concerned about the impending Brexit deadline next month which will impact my life here.

I have already been robbed of my right to vote in UK elections and post Brexit I will cease to be a EU citizen and will lose the right to vote in those elections also.
This will reduce me to the same status as a convict or a person of inadequate mental capacity, effectively a non-person.
My right to stay in France will depend entirely on the good will of the French government. I have a lot of confidence in France and think it unlikely that I will be deported in handcuffs, but I would rather remain here as a right, rather than as a consequence of the good will of the host country.
In the longer term, I see little chance of a reversal of the slide in Sterling. Since all my income comes from the UK, I am naturally concerned that a meagre UK State Pension will be be insufficient to provide a sufficient standard of living in old age.

On the upside, your state pension shouldn’t attract income tax in the UK and will in all probability continue to be below the threshold in France too
As a French resident, I don’t pay UK tax anyway, but by French standards I live in a marginal state of poverty. We actually live quite well because we own our house and being in good health I can still do a lot of things for myself. But things could change and I am concerned that the UK might no longer pay for my health care in France. I might even have to return to the UK and die on a trolley in a NHS corridor. . . . .
Surely those wonderful people in Westminster wouldn’t do that to us poor Brit pensioners…

If there is no extension to the transition period then I fully expect the UK to leave the EU at the end of December without a trade deal, this will have an impact on trade, travel, work, pensions etc all of which will affect me to some degree. Compare that to the effect on my life of DC going to Barnard Castle for an eye test and perhaps you might see why I really couldn’t give a ****.
