No, don’t think they’re from ebay. They usually ask me to contact them in order to cancel the order. I don’t really take any notice of them apart to delete

Nice to know I may get a variety of these… I shan’t panic next time!

I seem to remember I was able to retrieve a PayPal account although I didn’t have the mobile number anymore. I think I rang them and told them the old number. As eBay is PayPal you could maybe ressurect the deleted PayPal account and get in that way? Probably not, but just a thought…

Thanks @Rachman but I can’t find a number for them (except on very dodgy websites!) - if you have one that would be great! I deleted the UK-based Paypal account because I wanted to stop declaring it on my French tax return

My account is in Germany. I logged in and the contact number is
+49 69 945189832.
Maybe they can speak English or put you through to someone who can.

Thank you! I thought the various Ebays were quite separate…

My level of German is staggeringly rudimentary

Not an email per se but still a dreadful scam for all to be aware

Basically, always disregards approaches from anyone who contacts you and mentions money in any way. Research separately, and never using the phone a scammer has just been speaking with you on!

Maybe you know someone who has a PayPal account in English or French. If they log in they should see the contact phone number as I did.

Thanks @Rachman - I shall investigate…

Reporting back! Following on from a suggestion that I tried accessing Ebay with a computer that had been used on it in the past, I dug out my ancient netbook and fired it up. SUCCESS - it wanted to verify the account but offered the option of email (which the other didn’t) so I could get in and change my mobile phone number to my current one and also delete all payment methods (there was only one - a defunct Paypal) so it should be harmless and I’ll probably delete it in a few days. Just thinking about it first…
