Spurred on by @ron1 scooter thread I discovered this

I’m a bit bored at the moment  Sitting on the ferry while they take on tons and tons and tons of fuel. “The W.B. Yeats ferry consumes around 148 tonnes of fuel per day using all four main engines”.

It was meant to leave at 14:00.

Weather far better than yesterday though.

Has it changed departure time again @John_Scully ?

Recently, it has been leaving Cherbourg at 6pm, whereas it used to leave at 4pm, which is already a pain, because it got in much later to Dublin. In the other direction, from Dublin, it was leaving at 4pm.

Cadwell Park was scary enough on an actual motorcycle, can’t imagine taking the Gooseneck on a scooter.

The planned time was 16:30 and then we got a text on Saturday evening bringing it forward to 14:00. So we pitched up at 12:30. We were warned at check-in they needed to wait for fuel so the departure could be delayed. We got onboard at about 14:15 and after about an hour they announced they were commencing fuelling. They have just announced we’ll sail at 18:30  So two hours late rather than two and a half early. It doesn’t really matter to us as we’re in Dublin. You’ve a longer trip on arrival, don’t you?

Just had a chat with an officer and it seems the bunkering barge only works at special times during the day, when the port is busy, and we’ve been caught between shifts. I guess they tried for an early slot and ended up with a later one.

Yes, we have a 3.5 hour drive (without stops) down to North Kerry. It is fine during the day, but even with the motorway, it becomes a bit gruelling when you’re trudging in the dark on the N21 through south-western Limerick!

We’ve definitely noticed a refuelling delay on our last two trips, and from what you describe, seems to be getting worse

Sounds like a bit of a pig’s ear there by IF, hope you managed to finally get away ! Have a good trip !

Hope it’s not ‘a long preparation for something that never happens.’ (Yeats)
