Keir Starmer becomes first UK PM to receive France’s Légion d’honneur
I just cross-posted with you on the politics thread. I think he’s the second PM, Churchill being the first since 1958. It’s quite an accolade though.
Pleased for him. I think he is well respected on the international stage. Just not been able to get it right at home.
It will be interesting to see if Burnham makes him Foreign Secretary.
and if Starmer would accept. His ststements suggest not.
I hadn’t seen that.
Quite the illustrious list of recipients for that gong.
Starmer will fit in nicely with Manuel Noriega and Vladimir Putin.
Trump will want one next ![]()
That would be awful. It’s another reason not to vote for MLP.
And if he doesn’t get it, he’ll flatten another third world country. ![]()

It did cross my mind the award to Starmer was, at the same time, a middle finger to Trump. I’m sure Macron would like to do that for real, as he seems to be at least one leader at the very brink of losing his rag with Trump. (I’d love to earwig a conversation between leaders on the subject of Trump)
I just looked up the list to find some fitting counterpoints and saw that Leopold II was in there so I’d rather just concede.
And the Spanish PM as well doesnt like Trump.
I’d imagine there are a few. Some are able to be diplomatic (like Starmer) others look they want to chin him!
