Strange noise

Hi all

Living here near Villeneuve sur Lot. A noise coming from our wall we would like identified …it’s like a rapidly squeaking door hinge. It happens only maybe twice a day. I cant say there’s any particular pattern . ..thought initially it was just towards dusk but no….heard it today in the afternoon. Coming from the same place each time. Only lasts maybe 30 seconds at most. Would love to know what it is…

What’s the wall made of ? I assume that it is an external wall ? Is the noise coming from the top of the wall near the roof or down at the bottom ? Could be a number of creatures such as an Owl, a Bat, or some sort of rodent.

yes an external wall. The noise is coming from well down… below the light switch . Def not a scratching noise…I will try uploading a recording of the noise which might be more helpful in identifying it. Its just a curiosity really…

This is an image of the sound….Will try to share an audio

I hope it’s not Capricorn beetles

That’s what I was wondering. I think it’s the right time of year to hear them but I’m not sure what they would sound like. I’m sure @Rob_le_Pest would know.

Hello

Evidence is required before any assessment can be made; sound recordings, holes/chew marks, frass (wood/dirt dust) or droppings. Location, one place or several places, how long has the noise been there, what are the weather conditions when you hear the noise (ie only on during a force 9 gale). Lots of questions require lots of answers.

Springtime is ‘jiggy jiggy’ time. Think of the fluffy bouncing baby baa lambs in the fields, he same could be happening in one’s. Insects, birds, mammals are all feeling the urge to make little ones, so they are waking up, making nests, calling out for a suitor etc.

Plotos or sound recordings.

By the way, what happens when you tap on the wall when you hear the noise?

I hope this works - first time uploading a video

Just a little more on the noise - it is very intermittent and only last a 10 secs at the most. Whatever poor creature is making it doesnt move - it always comes from the same spot just under the light switch - Is it possible whatever it is got trapped when we were doing up the wall - we only put on the light switch covers and plug covers a month or so ago.

One has to give ‘permission’ to access it, I’ll take a gander later assuming you let me (and others)!

This is un-techy but is it possible to remove the light switch cover to see what’s behind it?

PM sent to ‘ave a chat.

I’m going through the sound archives, it’s stumped me. It could be a newborn marten/fouine/weasel, it doesn’t sound insecty.

Have you tried opening the light socket and shining a torch down there?

Outside where the noise is, do you have any ‘laine de verre’ (loft insulation) on the ground?
