I have a nasty case of strep throat, I’ve started a course of Amoxycillin and I’m taking paracetemol and Ibuprofen. I’m 24 hours from the start of severe sore throat but I’ve felt it coming on for days. I’ve taken today off work, how long does it last, days I suppose?
Sadly yes, it maybe worth looking at some medicated gargles or pain reliving spray Diflam is good but I don’t know French equivalents. I am a big fan of warm salty water gargled
Diflam does work miracles, excellent suggestion.
Lysopaïne (pastilles) is worth a try as they have a local anaesthetic so immediate relief. Over the counter at the pharmacy.
Also, gargling with soluble aspirin works as an anaesthetic but don’t swallow it if you are taking Ibruprofen.
Lots of hot drinks should soothe it a little as well.
Antibiotics will take a few days to work so that’s the best I can suggest in the meantime.
Hope you feel better soon.
I had bad tonsillitis a few years ago and A&E recommended diflam spray. Only last week my GP said to gargle with the liquid version for a badly inflamed throat
I always find whisky helps too - hope it doesn’t get too bad and you have a quick recovery
Yup, a hot toddy always works for me and comes highly recommended.
I’m gargling with Vodka, this is working remarkably well.
I had to google it but if gargle works better…
I can endorse that too.
I suppose so too.
I hope you will be feeling better soon.
Hope you will soon be back on that scaffold
I had nasty virus with strep throat a few weeks ago, the effects of the virus lasted three weeks. The best thing I found to help the throat was a packet of Strepsils with lidocaine - really helped with the pain and discomfort . You are better sticking with paracetamol, too much Ibuprofen is not recommended. Hope you feel better soon.
James, you poor thing, I had this last March… never ever had it before, although I know many colleagues throughout the years who have had an « angine blanche » lol. When I had it, it lasted for around 7-10 days with antibiotics.
A strep throat is as painful as can be, it’s like swallowing glass isn’t it…
as I still take chemotherapy I always gargle with bi carbonate of soda, already mixed at the chemist, this always helps for mouth ulcers, which fortunately I don’t get. I did in the beginning, every day a bit of bi carb helps i really do recommend the grogs though
surely nothing better lol lol
Good luck, hope you feel well soon
Oh, poor you James ! I had a nasty case of strep throat, back in 1994. The first doctor mis-diagnosed it and I ended up with the worst case of trench mouth my dentist had ever seen. I nearly lost all my teeth and the inside of my mouth (gums, cheeks and tongue), as well as my lips, were covered in ulcers. The only way I could cope was to take the strongest painkillers the doctor prescribed me and sleep for 4 hours, before the next dose. I couldn’t eat and could only drink through a straw. Sucking too hard on the straw caused my gums to bleed badly. I had severe headaches and the upshot was I was off work for 3 weeks. I would not wish strep throat on anyone and wish you James a speedy recovery. Bisous !
Hoping you are back up to top speed and energy is 100% by now.
