I always found it a bit of a snakepit, but I suspect the people who ran it were overwhelmed by the sheer number of questions and, even worse, the quantity of silly opinions and barrack-room lawyers’ replies.
I see there is now a new group, France Legal Support, where many of those who ran the former group have decamped to.
Goodness knows what went on. I was just struck by the fact that it seems you can just pass on “ownership” of a group to anyone you like, without (apparently) checking with members that they’re happy with that.
It seems there was a bit of a fallout amongst the admins and they’ve split off into the People’s Front of Judea and the Judean People’s Front.
Though they were useful, I was never keen on their moderation style. An iron rod but those in the clique got away with murder. Oh, and they never liked to be proven wrong.
Yes, I remember a couple of occasions I gave an opinion - when I forgot how pointless it was to do so - and was flatly contradicted by obvious nonsense. The subject-matter wasn’t at all contentious.
They certainly didn’t like having obvious errors and misapprehensions pointed out. They just seemed weirdly sensitive.
