StrongVPN Blocked

Thanks Tim, thT sounds useful -

The StrongDNS does not seem to work with the ITV Hub on iPad. It is ok on the PC.

I have emailed the support and will see what they come up with.

I will check BBC on iPad later.

Tim, There is a very good article Ivā€™e read today on French-Property News, all about Internet access in France, it explained a lot about what is happening and why on the slow change from adsl to higher speed internet access. It may be of use to newcomers to France as well. Of course itā€™s saying Orange still has 40% of the market with Free and SFR having only 20% each! Who has the other 20% Iā€™m not sure. Also saying most expats move to rural areas, as we do, where the service is at its worst! Iā€™ve ā€˜contactedā€™ FPN using their own email box, to see if there is an update on the info which uses 2013 sources. It will be interesting to see if I get a reply,Which I or someone will of course put on SFN - thatā€™s if they choose to contact them also.

Michelle, Do you know if they are suitable to download on iPad with iOS? If so, I could be interested in knowing those.you can friend and pm me if you prefer. Thanks.

We use cyberghost and pay for the premium service, 4.99 euros a month. It has about 20 different servers for the UK, but only some work for iplayer. If anyone wants to use it, I can tell you which to select. Otherwise, www.filmon.com is free and good for live streaming but you can't do "catch-up". I believe they do have a premium service that allows you to record though.

No. Others are reporting the same elsewhere. No, just the scrooges at BBC (and now ITV).

Strangely we did watch BBC at our friend's house - via Freeview satellite.

I have a StrongDNS trial that seems to be working. So I guess I will have to switch. I prefer the VPN though (not much diffence in speed as our Orange Internet has poo speeds of 2mb/s vs the line rated 20mb/s - They give the high speed to the bourgeousie - ignoring the hard working paysans. So much for EgalitƩ.

Ps to above, looked at site, canā€™t see it says includes Orange as an ISP, or includes iPads and icloud, although it mentions iPhones and MacX - neither of which apply to me! Also although yes there is a price of 4,95ā‚¬ Seems it really STARTS at 9.95ā‚¬. The websites I could see listed for UK are basically just for streaming TV, films etc. Not Although it says you can search worldwide. Although I go into some American websites for Specialiste info, I donā€™t care if those secure sites see where My IP address comes from.

Iā€™ve still got a bit further into Overplays website to look at though!

Hi Simon, hope you had a good trip back and Xmas, am I right thinking the above suggestion will still need my ORANGE routers IP, DNS info etc or will it pick up/read it automatically?

I use https://www.overplay.net/ Smart DNS - better than VPN as no software downloads / implications. It's a paid service but only US$4.95 / month (currently approx Ā£3.30 / 4,50ā‚¬). Never has a problem with it and use it on my laptops, mobiles and Smart TV.

Tim, perhaps this is another Orange/Apple thing? I have a UK community website, I can Usually access via emails like we do here or download them direct from safari search engine - neither will load this morning! l can only get SFN community here plus emails. But for a few weeks Iā€™ve had messages on iPad saying no internet access although Iā€™m on the net on wifi! All seems to have happened with those messages around time iOS updated to 9.2 or something I have no router Orange IP info on iPad now, just the router name! So I have access but itā€™s limited - that I definitely donā€™t understand! Think it means setting need resetting donā€™t know how to do that and as going out for lunch I dont want to get it into that today!

There was a new discussion put up about PDP here yesterday. Marie Antionette had the answer, via Google search! I think it answers my wifi/internet problems I mentioned (again) yesterday!

Iā€™m using Hola better Internet in Thailand on ipad. Itā€™s a paid subscription but itā€™s working fine this morning. Using it now.
