We have treated ourselves to a few days away and I have brought my brand new ipad with me (also a treat!) to play with and I am tearing my hair out!
I am going through the process of setting up and want to create an Apple account. This is my first Apple device.
I click on “don’t have an Apple Account?” which brings up a page “Name and Date of Birth”
I’ve entered my name successfully, but the date of birth line just offers me a calendar with today’s date highlighted and arrows in each direction to move through the months. There is no means of typing in my date of birth. Reluctantly, I finished up using the back arrow through each month (2024 to 1947 is a slow process!). I highlighted my birth date on the calender, clicked on it and was told my birth date was “not valid”. Am I too old to own an ipad?
I am now stumped.
Unfortunately I need an Apple account to load on apps, etc.
I would be very grateful for some suggestions as to what I can do. Thanks.
I realise that for most of you, you would have done this years ago. As OH says, he can’t remember what he did!
(NB the number of exclamation marks is a sign of my frustration)
I’ve been using Apple devices for many, many years. Ignore the highlighted number and just click on the one you want and that should take you to months again click on the right month then similarly the right year. If that fails restart the device, Ring Apple Support.
The date of birth field is filled with today’s date which is written as 15/01/2025
No idea how. I did do a factory reset when I realised I was getting nowhere. Would that have the same effect? We are talking about an ipad that is only 4 days out of the shop, so what would be in the cache?
Assuming you have something else to use the internet. You need access to your email to confirm your id anyway.
Simply go to apple music via a web browser. Press connect
Enter an email address - press continue - that will take you to create account. Date of birth can simply be typed - it’ll accept dates before 45 without issue.
You then need to confirm your email but that gives you your apple id/account you use with any apple device
Thanks everyone for your replies. I haven’t managed to do anything yet because the internet where we are staying is appalling. Under 1mb and keeps dropping, so very difficult to do any action that requires several stages, like book the next place we’re staying!
This may have to wait until we are back home in a few days.
You aren’t in the Apple system yet just return it and get an Android based device. Overpriced Apple devices are only worth it if you are already invested in their services
