Subscription 'scam' doing the rounds

There is an outfit based in Cyprus called HAIRSHOPGO.COM who offer ‘shopping’ serivces’ - alleged high end goods at knock down prices. Their MO is to wind you in by offering to sell you something - maybe an iphone for 5€. One might think one is giving your card number for this unmissable deal, but in fact you are signing up to a subscription service where they can take money at will from your card.

I highlight this as I understand they havve infiltrated the likes of Amazon, so that when one logs in to Amazon, you are offered this ‘unmissable deal’ so that you think it is authorised by Amazon!

It is not! DO NOT sign up to any offer as it is a nightmare to get out.

When I open my Credit Agricole bank account there is a warning at the top of the page in red - basically it’s saying ‘take care = the deal of a lifetime you see on the internet is not what you think it is. It’s a scam’.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Don’t let the buggers take your money !

Madame received the SNCF offer which was too good to be true, and indeed was.

Apparently it is very well done.

Pfft

And people think I’m weird for wanting to go to shops and buy things there.

Well, treat everything which pops up unasked for and sounds too good to be true as a scam certainly. And verify everything else as much as possible.

To be clearer, my warning is in regards to the word subscription. The offer could be quite genuine and probabaly is, but in order to obtain it they will offer a subsciption service for future offers that gives them the right to raid your card.

Conde Nast started this back in the day by suggesting a Christmas gift idea of an annual subscrption to a magazine. One might have thought one paid for twelve issues and that was that, but no, the purchaser was billed again on the second year. It was difficult to get out as you originally signed up to the subscription and they had your card number…
