Suggestions for second hand car about 10,000 euros

We need to buy a car and we have about 10,000€. We have no idea even what to look at as a possible purchase.

It will be our run-around, day in day out car. We are based in hilly country and roads are narrowish and have poorly maintained edges. Local town/shops are about 10 minutes and we make that trip most days, we go to Agen, an hour, Villeneuve 30 minutes, occasional trips to Bordeaux 2 hours.
It needs to be an estate (or similar) for getting stuff in and out the back - including dog.
It needs to be able to tow a 750 kilo remorque
It needs to have legroom, at least at the front, OH is 6ft.

Obviously, ideally reliable (yes I know, pot luck with second-hand, our last car, a Skoda, was a nightmare) and reasonable fuel consumption

Any thoughts anyone, please?

A used Renault Kangoo.

This little car that I am selling would seem appropriate:

It sounds perfect for your needs!

If youhave the time, take a trip round the main dealers and see what they have on offer, you may get a surprise as people change to EV. I have had Fords and VW’s for many years and never been let down unlike french makes.

Maybe something like a VW Tiguan or Touran?

The Dacia Duster seems enormously popular in our part of the Morvan, probably because it fulfills a lot of the requirements you list. They are also notably inexpensive.

There has been a national recall on some thousands of Dacia models with failing engines so you need to check that out carefully

I thought that one was a keeper, Mark!

Mr Davies seems to be trying out his car salesman patter because I’m *sure* Sue said “It needs to be an estate”.

Anyway, BMW 5 series from about 2008/9 depending on mileage would fit.

If you had posted this three weeks ago you could have had our Nissan Qashqai +2 Tekna AWD - top of the range, 115,000 kms, leather seats etc, just serviced with four new tyres. Perfect for hill country being AWD, very roomy with a huge boot for a dog crate, very reliable and most importantly close to your budget.

There are quite a few about so worth a look.

A pretty good choice I would say. Shares a lot of parts with renault but easier to service.

Where’s your hair salon and how much for a short back and sides?

Is that the ones using the new petrol engine?

The 1.5 litre DCi Renault engine used in the Duster is possibly one of the most tried and trusted engines in Europe.

Have you driven one? they are great fun especially the 2L

The newer AdBlue versions have a bad reputation.

I was going to suggest a Yeti until you said…

The 1300 petrols are more powerful and almost as economic

For £5 you could buy membership to Which - cancel anytime. They have quite a lot of information on car reliability and other pros and cons.
I would try to buy one with a full service history.

I reckon it best to buy from a local garage… just my own view.
