A friend of mine recently moved into an older which apparently had telephone service years ago since that time the Village has decided to move all utilities underground. Service is apparently available at the curb however my friend cannot find anyone to provide telephone or Internet service for less than 1600 euros connect fee. I saw that Free offers a connect to a home never having service for 40 euros but we are not sure if they could check and determine that service was once there. Does anyone have any suggestions how to get telephone and internet connection for a reasonable fee?
It wouldn't be surprising if even an offer like Free's didn't cover the actual connection costs where these involved digging a long trench across the property. If that is where the €1600 is coming from, it might be time to consider one of the Broadband by Satellite offers, such as by Tooway. There's plenty of competition in that field, and the capital cost, which shouldn't be anything like €1600, can be paid over time.
Generally speaking, I'm very sceptical about using such a service, especially as a means of watching UK TV. As quite a number of SFN members do have such systems, there's plenty of scope for finding which service would best meet your friend's requirements.
If the cost isn't for physical installation, such as trench digging, perhaps you could post more details of why it's so expensive.
