TfL UK robbery

To be honest Gordon that’s all gobbledygook to me and I suspect twaddle from TfL. Was it by mail or email? Could you post their full response? I guess the FOI is the freedom of information officer? What has he got to do with a GDPR issue? These people will try and fob one off with twaddle, lets look at the communication in detail. Then send it to the French Data Protection Commissioner for verification :slightly_smiling_face:

All those RANDOM all caps WORDS makes it LOOK like it was done BY a lunatic. Add in that it reads like a cut and paste job that’s been done in the wrong order, liberal use of quotations, typos and the fact that it makes little sense, it makes you wonder if Graham Hunt even exists. If it was Mike Hunt, Ben Dover or Hugh Jass I’d be certain someone didn’t want their actual name known…

Or their Scottish cousin, Phil McCrevice :face_with_hand_over_mouth: There’s few interesting things. For example the concept of “keeper” doesn’t exist in France. I would also be surprised if the French registration authorities had the freedom to decide if a request for data from a third country, unsupported by and mutual agreement, was deemed legitimate (that’s not to say they aren’t supplying it would in error, but that!s another matter). Plus if the “debt” isn’t pursued through the French legal system, how the hell is it pursued?

It think it’s worth having a look at the communication in depth. My inclination is still that the debt collectors are trying it on :slightly_smiling_face:

People respond to pseudo official looking letters as we have learned on here from scammers, these are just a degree above them.

I couldn’t agree more.

Hi, it was a email reply. Agree it was somewhat legalistic but in the end they admit through their agency having success obtaining registered owner details here. That alone surprised me post Brexit. As I said , the most important information is missing. Are tfl actually managing to legally enforce their fines here & how (and are such ULEZ fines incurring additional collection fees like Hussier and or Court which are not modest ! ?
Hopefully members can fill in the gaps and the opinion of your Hussier pal will be most interesting too.

My summary covered all salient points. But I will be happy to post you a photocopy if you want to take it up with French Data Protection ? Please let me know. Regards

The sheeple pretty much do what they are told, the rulers do what they want as they dont obey their own rules and money alters opinion. Is it any wonder we see more anarchy these days from those who are fed up with the situation?

I don’t think I can make a complaint on your behalf, but I’ll look up that procedure when I’ve a moment(which might take a while as I’m travelling) but I see no downside to making a complaint and quite a bit of upside if it’s sustained.

You might recall my inquiry was just a general one in order to elicit a precise reply from ULEZ. This I have achieved to my satisfaction whilst, as I said, the enforcement method (if any) is still vague & uncertain. As I have no intention of taking my vehicle to the new ULEZ zone I leave it to any other interested parties here to raise an inquiry (not necessarily a complaint) to the French Data body. Thanks for your cooperation

Unfortunately the ULEZ expansion has been given the legal go-ahead:

Below is the link the check and register non-UK vehicles:
https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle/Results

It’s road charging and area access charging being snuck in under the pretence of something else. I lived across those Western boroughs newly affected and air is not a problem except on major roads - mostly on ‘through’ roads.

I also applied for a scrappage grant whilst still eligible as I was living in the zone and was told that while my vehicle and residence qualified, the money had run out. I was willing to replace the vehicle but needed assistance. Had the grant money actually bern available and not run out I would have been fine and the vehicle later failed… in France.

I have always felt for small tradesmen, many scraping to find a living, being pushed out of London and out of work for this. Central London must only be a playground for MP’s, the rich, taxi drivers and tourists now.

More news re the ULEZ farce:

GOV.UK has details of clean air zones being established in about 12 uk cities, including Portsmouth…not sure exactly what this results in, but could be challenging for thousands of cars coming off the ferries, particulartly for foreign vehicles and tourisrs

Cash Cow!

How else will the Uk, or any other country, replace lost revenue from fossil fuels?
pay as you go will soon be raking it in alongside pay as you earn.
I think rural France will escape low emission zones in my lifetime.

Good to seen them leaping (arthritically) into action

Where we live in Correze at around 500 metres up the air pollution level is in the best and lowest category. I dont think our hamlet of 14 houses is likely to see any Low Emission Zone signs any time soon . Our nearest town is only one pollution level higher.
I do have a Crit Air sticker though :innocent: .

I have a related anecdote on this subject.

Due to visiting some family in the UK I recently came across the Bristol Clean Air Zone for the first time. I decided to us their online checker to see if they would recognise the French registration of my fully BCAZ compliant EV.

The website returned a very clear answer - “we only deal with UK vehicle data”.

This got me wondering…do they pass on registration numbers to a debt collection agency who may have access to non-UK registration databases? I imagine that someone using the BCAZ with a non-compliant vehicle would receive a fine in the post, followed by debt recovery measures if they don’t pay.

Rather then become a test case I emailed the BCAZ people to explain what I intended to do (i.e. drive in the BCAZ with a foreign plated EV) & hoped that they would excuse any pursuit of a fine as I also sent them a scan of my carte grise which clearly shows that the vehicle complies. I drove in the BCAZ yesterday.

Thus far I have received an automated acknowledgement of my message with an assurance that they will reply within 10 working days.

I await their response…
