As did Boris Alexander dePfeffel “I will never leave my job as Mayor of London to stand for Parliament” Johnson…
In both cases ambition won out over responsibility. But of course the Tories did not veto Boris’ decision to stand for Parliament.

According to Phil Moorhouse, they can’t stand each other. They were both at a lunch hosted by some right-wing anti-climate change US think tank, but did not speak. After Farage left early to go and (not) meet Trump in Davos, Truss had a good moan about Farage stealing her economic ideas!
I could say that’s because to a last man and women they recognised personal ambition as taking priority over country and party.
- that airhead never had an original idea about anything.
Braverman left because she couldn’t stand the Torry lies any longer, well that’s rich as you were part of the machine ![]()
Presumably, given that she has gone to Reform, they were not grotesquely big enough for her.
ROFL.haha ![]()

I don’t think my and Billy’s views are necessarily incompatible. I equally think @johnH makes good points.
I do think however, perhaps because of past business experience, there should be bounded, time limited tolerance of failure and no naively waiting for “things to turnaround”. Cull quick and cull early, it’s better for all involved.
The UK is not on the road to “recovery”.
But that is now the US, and there is no going back. No matter who replaces Trump. We need leadership in Europe and that’s not evident ![]()
Or perhaps the truth is the opposite way round, now so many have moved to their natural home.
It’s certainly making the Conservatives more attractive!
Agreed - certainly I try not to view Labour through rose tinted specs, and there are definite missteps, gaffs and frank f*ckups.
But, seriously what is the alternative? Farage/Reform - fine if you wish to join the fascist revolution but count me out. It is pretty likely that they would be terrible as an actual governing party anyway. The Tories? - Please, don’t make me laugh. The WI could probably do a better Job.
The Lib Dems? Well, I’d give them a chance but they have not held power for 110 years so are just as likely to fluff things as the Labour party. In any case they aren’t getting into power any time soon.
The Greens - ? well, OK, bring on the communist revolution because they are still very, left wing.
I’ve gone down this list before, the list of alternatives has not got better.
As it happens we might not be able to avoid the rise of neo-fascism anyway. In the 40’s it took the combined might of the Allies including Russia and the US to quash the Nazi’s - I don’t think Europe could do it when the fascist power is America, especially considering an indifferent or even frankly hostile Russia.
Much as I hate to say anything that might be perceived as defending Johnson (I refuse to use his stage name), they were quite different situations, not least that, unlike Burnham, Johnson wasn’t a Police and Crime Commissioner. It’s not legally permitted to keep that role and be an MP, so Burnham would have to resign if he were to run.
The need to obtain permission is more due to the need to resign than about permission to throw the hat in the ring.
How can he creat a Peace board ? When all he knows to do is make war?
Minitrue - Ministry of propaganda
MiniLuv - Thought Police, security, torture
MiniPax - Ministry of war.
It’s almost like he read a manual or something.
Were these links made by orange man?
Sorry, it came from George Orwell ‘s novel. Did not think the orange man was so well read.
