The FTFY part? It’s “fixed that for you”.
There is a rather alarming similarity between events and currents running in UK today and the social developments in Germany of the 1930s as told by a witness to them
What is most worrying, apart from the social media fueled hatred and violence against all foreigners, is the rise through a democratic gateway of malign entities like Farage and that Ahole heading up the indecent ‘Restore’ party.
Where this is going is not a country I would wish to live in.
What @Gareth said. A government will tend to protect itself. I don’t think this Labour government is particularly corrupt, rather just a bit dim and poorly organised.
Farage would agree with you: one of the things he objects to is young men of fighting age arriving to claim asylum and having nothing to do.
So let them work or find ways to occupy them.
AFAIK they can’t work legally until their asylum claim has been processed - though they can apply for permission to work after 12 months.
The processing backlog needs sorting, that will mitigate a lot of the issues I think.
While I’m sure the numbers of men assaulted by their partners is smaller, I’m certain it is greatly under-reported. I’ve personally known men assaulted by their wives as far back as the 1980s. A women’s support group that I had connections with around 2010-15 eventually set up a separate group for men because they were being contacted by so many who were being abused at home.
Violence is not uniquely male. From the BBC today:
Isn’t the point though that women in Belfast have been killed by white male partners, I read it’s 30 women over the last six years, and there have been no riots for them?
There are a lot of things that seem more deserving of a riot than the original incident, but there’s a good chance many of the rioters knock their wives and husbands around, so it’s nothing special.
Sorry?
Apology accepted.
It was a question.
Which of these two do you say is correct, and what is your conclusion? Were these arrested people charged with riot-related offences? I’m not clear what point you’re making.
There were over 50.000 reported cases of stabbings in UK in the last year but when it is by a Sudanese person on a local it is a cause for riots.
The asylum backlog halved in 2025. At the same time, the appeals backlog increased dramatically due to the large increase in the number of asylum claims processed and the lower rate of acceptance.
Edit: Sadly, some purposely group the two together to purport to show that the asylum system isn’t working, but the rise in appeals is a direct result of the success in tackling the backlog.
I think @Ancient_Mariner meant that it’s nothing special to the men who abuse their wives. At least that’s how I interpreted it.
The ONS and police stats say between 1% and 3% of DA offences are GBH.
Too common, but not very common.
Well, I’ve seen it at a refuge in Wales, all too common. That was in the 1980’s though. The sad fact is that then, and maybe now to a lesser extent, most assaults are either not reported or can’t be verified so they don’t go down as a statistic.
The sad fact is that many abused women go back to the abuser wheen he declares undying love and says he’ll never hit them. Then I think they don’t press charges.
It is the case now that if there is a report of abuse and enough evidence , Police can still bring charges even if the complainant withdraws their accusation. But, they rarely do.
