That political discussion with occasional humour thread

I found it earlier: The Global Misogyny News Coverage Tracker

The Guardian reported that “An analysis of 1.14bn online stories published worldwide between 2017 and 2025 found that the proportion of articles that include terms relating to misogynistic abuse dropped to a “dismal” 1.3% of all global online news in 2025.”

It seems to be based on a massive assumption: that there is a “correct” level of reporting.

It seems to me that is nonsensical.

There is a reason for that apart from the obvious, in my own experience not only did the police not take seriously but made it worse by firstly, the female officer on the spot taking sides against the victim and even failed to act at a blatant act of danger, but called for back up in the shape of 3 burly males who did not enter the building and contented themselves with laughing at the lone male who was apparently unable to restrain his wife physically. Presumably if he had done he would have been arrested. And if you think it was just 3 +1 noddies, a later official complaint was made to the police and swept aside by an Inspector who not only was of the same opinion but also came round his desk to pose his 6’6” height within inches of the complainant to express it.

It doesn’t matter if only a small percentage of men find themselves in this position, not to treat it equally is misandry.

To write off someones research that spans over 8 years that has trawled through millions of pieces of information without reading the actual research and calling it ‘nonsensical’ is staggering in its arrogance.

I could quote you at least another dozen pieces of research that have come to similar conclusions over the years, but I’m sure as an ‘expert’ in research methodology you’ll simply write them off. So really what is the point.

But at least even blurred words are useful.

Palestine Action proscription was lawful: Palestine Action ban is lawful, Court of Appeal rules Palestine Action ban is lawful, Court of Appeal rules - BBC News

I think it perhaps shows a lack of planning on the part of the government, who must have seen the problem coming.

Still, if the Tories get in next time (flying into the House of Commons on the backs of a squadron of pigs), they’ll take away from judges the power to rule on asylum-seekers’ appeals.

Well, it was always going to happen. I’m sure they understood that. There’s not a lot that can be done to stop people from appealing. They could of course just accepted everyone rather than toughening up the criteria, that would have reduced the number of appeals. What they actually did was what everyone was saying they needed to do … reduce the backlog and toughen up the criteria.

A BBC investigation has found that Russia was behind the arson attacks on Starmer’s properties. Add that to Russian interference in the Brexit campaign and now Yaxley-Lennon/Robinson has been spotted in Moscow with Musk’s father. Putin’s people seem to be very active.

Are his days numbered in government? Few people seem to think that the orange thug has come away with a good deal on Iran, so maybe Hegseth will be the fall guy. I don’t see Trump picking on his SiL or his real estate buddy for their negotiation.

Everyone on team MAGA has clearly been briefed to repeat over and over that this was JD Vance’s deal, before the text was publicly released, and even before the negotiations were complete. I think they knew it was going to be a complete capitulation to Iran and so lined him up to take the fall, which in turn makes me wonder whether they’re really considering a Trump/ Kushner presidential run next time and wanted to pin this catastrophic failure on Vance ready for the primary race. Which is not to say you’re not right and Hegseth will be a casualty, although I think he’s been next on the chopping block for something, anything, for a little while anyway, as even the Trump White House realise that putting low IQ raging alcoholics with no common sense or ability to function in the world in charge of major government departments is not a great idea… (Also see Kash Patel, Pam Bondi, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Kristi Noem)

Well, apart from pissing off most European governments, Vance hasn’t had much success at anything so far. Meanwhile, given that Trump senior(!) can’t (currently) stand again, which of his spawn did you have in mind? None of the boy’s seem bright enough - OTOH that’s probably not a necessary requirement for a GoP VP.

And there we have it as predicted, Israel have bombed a civilian target in Lebanon. Even Vance has had enough.
