The Benefits of Vaccination (with thread drift...)

So will you start your own topic then …

Stop this please

I think that it has been proved by the scientific community that what Helen is promoting is dangerous for the rest of us.
We have listened to her promoting American tv shows and other highly dubious reports and I seem to remember that on one post she said it would be her last, yet she is blindly continuing to push her dangerous and antisocial message.

@ChrisM , I really sincerely hope you never have someone in your life who misguidedly believed and trusted the claptrap that the anti vax idiots spout, then catches covid and dies a truly long and horrific death alone and terrified in hospital, hope that never happens, I’m out.

I don’t honestly find these sorts of comments at all helpful as, as I’ve said over and over, and the OP has done so too now, the thread is wildly off topic as it was meant to be discussing the BENEFITS of vaccination, not putting, then trying to break down, the arguments AGAINST vaccination. @Griffin36 may have now reached the end of his tether and perhaps crossed a line in forgetting his ‘dinner party etiquette’ but it really has been the misinformation, and the commenters who have been constantly replying to it (and I include myself in that before I realised that I was helping to ruin a potentially interesting thread) who are fundamentally ‘in the wrong’ here and in forums with stricter moderation would have found their posts removed as off topic, which they are. Someone discussing the dangers of vaccination in a thread about benefits are NOT ‘just as entitled to give her side of the argument’, because it is the wrong place. Someone coming in to a thread about Tesco and spending every post blathering on about Sainsbury’s would soon be told ‘this is the Tesco thread, if you want to talk about Sainsbury’s do so on a Sainsbury’s thread, or if need be, make one.’. @Griffin36 is correct really, it is not him who should have to create a new topic about the BENEFITS of vaccination, we have one, this one. It is those who wish to discuss the perceived dangers of vaccinations who should start a new topic.

White Knighting into the thread when the thread is a bit of (as the Americans may say) a dumpster fire doesn’t really do much to actually help the situation, although I imagine it was done with the best of intentions, it’s just unfortunate that people are far more interested in ruining a potentially fascinating thread about the good vaccination does to have a big old Barney about whether it does harm, and suggesting others go elsewhere instead of following basic internet etiquette and taking their own off topic material elsewhere.

Anyway, now that I’ve stopped metaphorically biting my tongue and had a good old rant I’ll just have to mute the thread I guess as it seems like despite my hopes some people have no interest in keeping it on topic so I’ll never find out the information I hoped.

what information are you seeking ???

Any or all really. For my sins I know nothing at all really about vaccination. I think I’m a little younger than most of you so are clearly less knowledgeable about most things in life but getting vaccinations, be it in situations like this, or an annual flu jab, or when travelling abroad and needing jabs against specific diseases, is just something I have always done and never really thought anything about. I just imagined that with what fascinating people you all are you’d have some very interesting bits of information about vaccination generally, why we do it, how it generally works… I don’t ‘need’ any information, I’m sure I can find out more than enough via google if I want to, it just seemed like there was potential for a really good and interesting conversation about the subject with a group of people who would have some well thought out ideas, both about vaccination generally and if/why it has been been the right way to deal with this pandemic, why it has worked so well, if it in fact has. It just seems like a potentially really good thread has been destroyed.

If the merits of the argument were to be judged on the politeness and consideration of the participants, looks like the antivaxers would have it.

Yes, they would advertise on an advert, right time right place. They wouldn’t advertise in the middle of the obituary for Bruce Forsyth or a report about the Ethiopian famine, Michael Buerk didn’t turn to camera and say “here’s little Fred, he’s not eaten for weeks, but you can because fish fingers are 10% off at Tesco” because there’s a time and a place. Adverts belong in the advertising section. Tescotalk .com (my made up Internet forum about Tesco) is about Tesco so people bigging up Sainsbury’s non stop on a Tesco forum should quite expect to be politely be told to ‘go whistle’. I honestly don’t know why I’m even having to say this, it’s beyond bizarre and just reaffirms my decision to mute the topic before I also end up saying something I will regret. It’s got nothing to do with free speech at all, it’s got to do with basic Internet forum protocol.

Not sure about that @Geof_Cox since consideration also includes listening to the opposite point of view (not sure any antivaxers are listening) and there is something called passive aggression - I know about this, since I used it (in an endless stream of words) as a child on my younger brother to the point where he hit me over the head with his toy rifle in frustration and I went crying to my mother and he had his rifle taken away from him.
I think there are just some of us here feeling like my brother, being bombarded with a constant stream of words. Just a thought!

just as a matter of interest…

Newcomers to our commune… interesting, pleasant folk.

One is double-vaxxed the other isn’t and won’t unless absolutely forced.

They love one another and respect each other’s views… both are being extremely careful.

'nuff said.

But - as your mother clearly felt - an overly aggressive response is rarely justified!

I’m also completely baffled by this bizarre and authoritarian notion that a topic called ‘the benefits of vaccination’ is license for anybody to propose any benefit, and nobody is allowed to dispute or counter it. (If that’s the case, I would like to insist that covid vaccination makes everyone instantly a millionaire!)

Click on the About tab on the Free West Media site and we are are told that “the people of Europe are revolting”. Bit harsh I thought…I’ve met some nice people here.

@chrisK I normally don’t click on the links anymore but you piqued my interest.

It was not a massive shock but disappointing nonetheless to see the following parties mentioned in a favourable light

“New parties and movements grow from below, propelled by enthusiastic grassroots. Parties like Alternative für Deutschland, Front National and Freiheitliche Partei Österreich gain momentum, in spite of harsh opposition from the establishment and harassment from street thugs”.

The press is described as the “lying press” it is all so transparent and shabby.

Who is saying anything of the sort? I have seen that nowhere in this thread.

As long as they keep themselves to themselves within their real community, as, obviously one of them poses a danger there.

Consideration for whom Geof?
Certainly not those who might well be made very ill or even die by their stubborn refusal to be vaccinated.

This won’t be much of a surprise either,
