Perhaps some firms might start taking a bit more care of customers’ personal data now that it’s clear hacking can actually hurt businesses themselves, that don’t keep their systems secure?
Does that mean I am right in refusing a U card? ![]()

And there’s not much risk of your thermostat being adjusted up to 50 degrees C just for holding it.
Looks like these had multiple vulnerabilities and many systems were exposed direct to the Internet
The Internet is an unfriendly place these days - just checked on one of my remote servers, roughly one probe from somewhere looking to find a vulnerability every two seconds, 60 in two minutes.
That continues 24/7
It was the bit about holding onto customers’ data that prompted my comment, my fridge is not connected to anything other than a wall plug.
That’s the same article I linked ![]()
It is, odd, normally Discourse prompts you to say it’s a repeat. Wonder why Discourse didn’t spot that.
Anyway the next question is how much liability Danfoss will carry.
Probably too busy fighting bots.

The article says that they had patched vulnerabilities and had new firmware available - so I’d be very interested to know whether the supermarkets that were hacked had updated the code in their systems or not.
That could have been the differentiating factor in who was affected and who not.
I knew that there was a good reason why I don’t have a ‘Maison Connectée’.
BBC had an article where it was suggested stores hadn’t updated software on some older fridges.
Which would shift responsibility back to the supermarkets.
It seems they were older units that couldn’t be updated. Back to Danfoss.
Talking of repeat links, that’s the exact one I posted to start the thread off.

and almost 100 Coopérative U locations,
It’s just handy so people can see where I got my info from. ![]()
Touchée. Didn’t see U as a co-op so skated over it.
If online website maintenance is any indicator, it seems to me that endearingly cheque friendly France commerce is nowhere up to speed with tech and cyber developments.
Wasn’t long ago the NHS was hacked, so UK not much better but at least now perhaps GCHQ and MI5 are making the threats clear and chivvying companies to join the 21st century. I’m not sure where the lead is in France but needs to step up right now.
Someone said the System works with SIM cards.
It could do, quite a lot of systems have embedded 4/5G these days in order to maintain an Internet connection in locations where they cannot rely on WiFi or a wired connection. But it is just an internet connection at the end of the day.
I’ve just hardened my two remote servers - was a little worried one had been compromised but it was just a misconfiguration. Still, in this day and age, no need to make it easy for bad actors to hack your systems.
