The Great Gin Famine

Well done on both counts!!

I can’t bear to let things go to waste, so have bottles and bottles of different liquers I’ve made. But also have become 95% teetotal, so they are gathering dust sadly.

We harvested some mirabels locally yesterday, but don’t have containers (or suitable alcohol) in which to convert them. I do like a nice fruit liqueur in moderation.

Stick them in the freezer until you do perhaps?

Jam jars?

We are now back in the UK….I still occasionally make Eau de Vie. Some friends here will sometimes partake!

How do you make eau de vie without distillation hardware?

Should have said ‘liqueurs’. You add the ready distilled vodka or gin.

Pressure cooker a bit of hose, a cooling tank (can be a bucket with a hole drilled into the side at the bottom) hose goes into the cooling tank, attach a copper coil with the bottom sticking out of the tank. Look up tops, middles and bottoms before you poison yourself

I don’t think I would like it. I still see a lot of faded pained signs for Suze around on old brick buildings- probably a hundred years old. Persistent advertising.

Yep, the tops’n’tails shpiuld not be consumed. However they are always present in the alcohol that is to be distilled, aren’t they? So when drinking the undistilled base they are consumed.

Oh, and no naked flames when running any still illicit or otherwise!

They are only an issue if you are distilling fermented material because the distillation can concentrate the toxic alcohol. Correctly fermented material should only contain very low levels of methanol (in particular) and other odd alcohols. I suspect too that when fermenting for beer (for example) conditions are optimal for ethanol, and it’s only when the fermentation mix is pushed a bit that it starts making the wrong thing.

My my, hey hey
Rock and roll is here to stay
It’s better to burn out than to fade away
My my, hey hey

Out of the blue and into the black
They give you this, but you pay for that
And once you’re gone you can never come back
When you’re out of the blue and into the black

The king is gone, but he’s not forgotten
This is the story of a Johnny Rotten
It’s better to burn out than it is to rust
The king is gone, but he’s not forgotten

Hey hey, my my
Rock and roll can never die
There’s more to the picture than meets the eye
Hey hey, my my

Perfect?

Brilliant! You should open for me at my next gig! “ Though Rock and roll is here to stay, it oft times takes your life away! Just ask Elvis, Eddie too, and Buddy, who wrote ‘Peggy Sue!’ And if you think that THAT’S a bummer,/ Poor Frank the ZZ’s tasty drummer!

The latest Top, this story’s weird!

Was The only one without a beard!

I recognised the opening lines from Def Leppard’s song off the “ Pyromania’ album, Wicked line that! Heh heh heh! BOOM!

I don’t think we are the same generation, you lost me after Elvis, Eddie and Buddy, after that I admit to liking some of it.
