Seems the experimental antiviral pill is only 30% effective… as against 80% for current treatments… so it’s not received the “go ahead”…
(I’m sure the research will be continuing… covid is not going away… not just yet.)
The UK mainstream media, and even some in government (Sajid David), on the other hand, had hyped up the advent of this product onto the market as a “game changer”
Makes one wonder what is going on with the different health authorities, doesn’t it ?
The UK Approval Report was 4th November…
France’s Rejection was 10th December…
This mediaction seems to be of somewhat limited efficacy (IIRC 30% effectiveness has been mentioned, though I can’t give a link right now) so certainly useful in some scenarios but not a game changer. The French authorities may be aware of a better alternative coming along and therefore decided to reject this, or possibly because the evidence in favour is not overwhelming it may have been a cost/politically driven choice.
