Brilliant bit of writing, John. Harum-scarum, hold-on-tight-to-the-safety-rail stuff, left me breathless but grinning ear to ear.
i totally disagree with you, they should be registered at the first country they enter, once in Europe they should not be in a conflict but, Italy lets them go I to France, France sends them back, if they get to Paris, Calais , the French government ignores that they are there. No help whatsoever, no money , no accommodation, violence against them at times and moved on . When the whole time it if Frances responsibility to register them and make them safe. Not try to get them onto busses, boats to get to the Uk.
I am amazed by the socialist, guardian readers on this site that believes everything they read, and hate the Uk now . If you donāt like the Uk stay in France but donāt keep winging about everything and believing you know the truth because you read the guardian.
How many English canāt get work because our qualifications are not recognised in France, the bruts and colours are second class citizens in France.
I do know folk whose qualifications were āno goodāā¦ some turned to completely different ways of earning a livingā¦ and some undertook re-training/training in their āfieldā to get the French qualification they needed.
From those I know ofā¦ the decisions seemed to be age related ā¦ in the main it was the young-middle-aged ones who took on the re-training etc ā¦
but these things are not secretā¦ it is well known what one needs to work in Franceā¦
Unfortunately with the bulk coming from the Middle East or North Africa this puts an unfair burden on the Southern and Eastern EU nations - and this unbalance has driven much dissatisfaction within the EU as to how things are handled.
FWIW there is actually no established rule that says asylum seekers have to claim in the first āsafeā country that they reach.
In fact the British courts ruled that France was not considered a āsafeā nation for returning refugees because of the long record of systemic abuse - as you yourself note.
Where is your evidence that the French state is actively trying to put people onto busses and boats to the UK?
Hungary and Poland both being criticised by the EU for anti-democratic practices.
Except thatās wrong, Mandarin is the most widely spoken language.
Except thatās wrong, Mandarin might be the most common 1st language but English is spoken by more people overall (1.27 billion English speakers vs 1.12 billion Mandarin speakers).
Except it isnāt -
Iāll now put my life on hold whilst Paul looks for another link to prove me wrong.
Dear Barrie,
As and when u can lurn to spell and spik proper like, people might (and that is a big might) take you seriousl. Like.
Until then, please donāt be surprised if us Grauniad readers are not entirely prepared to listen to youse rantins. This is quite a left wing site and you might be more comfortable posting elsewhere.
Just sayin.
Oh I canāt be arsed Tim
Letās just agree that English is probably one of the two most commonly spoken languages
I must admit, as I posted that Wikipedia link the thought flitted through my overheated brain that āmost widely spoken languageā should be measured by number of conversations, not numbers of people who know the language - and I donāt think anyone has tried to collate that data.
Do you not think it is good to hear views from all sides of a discussion?
Nah - never
What do you mean by āthe bruts and coloursā?
As for qualifications either they are valid (there are EU-wide equivalencies for academic qualifications as well as supra-EU qualifications) or just get French ones. It canāt be that difficult especially if it is in some area you already have expertise, you donāt even have to pay for most of them eg via the GRETA.
We know their views, thatās why most of us are here!
We need different views :-))
Someone I was chatting to said something really interesting today. Because of Covid people are spending more and more time online and having less face to face interactions.
As a result people lose out on all sorts of non-verbal cues that form an important part of conversations. People end up being keyboard warriors and saying things they would have no intention of saying face to face.
The result being people shouting at each other from very entrenched positions. Survive France can be great as you do get other points of view even though inevitably it can descend into a spat sometimesā¦
