Hubby also welded me a triangular trivet just from rebar and it is great to slide under if a bit too hot. So cross I’ve not been doing this for years!
Some great info, so just simulated my energy usage with the 3 EDF options on an xl sheet, as I’m currently on the base. Very interestingly, even if I continue my current habits I would still save with the tempo option, so anything I can turn off on red and white days would be a bonus, so think I’ll be signing up. Thanks to everyone who’s posted as it really has spurred me on to look at this. Think this is probably the last of the optimisations on cost that I can make now, unless something else miraculous pops up
Hi John
Our phone is and oldish I phone
We think the problem is that our Apple account is registered in the UK ( for historical reasons ) and therefore has issues with downloading French apps ?
Then you should be able to log in and out of different Apple accounts. I have a Apple UK account which uses a HSBC UK debit card as its method of payment and a Apple France account which uses my HSBC France debit card as payment. If an App I want is only on one store I just log in and download it. So I have a mixture of UK and French apps on my phone. Strangely, regardless of which account I’m logged in as, the apps from both countries seem to update successfully. Just occasionally I’m asked for the password for the “other” account.
The trick is having the country specific method of payment to initially set up the Apple account.
Exactly the same works for playstore ie android, maintain two google accts and make sure you’re logged into the right country one before you go into playstore to get the geo-limited app you need.
Took me b1**dy ages to work out that one.
Red day again tomorrow so I’ll be waiting another day to switch
(Copied from Karen’s post above as the quote facility is not working for me just now).“Exactly the same works for playstore ie android, maintain two google accts and make sure you’re logged into the right country one before you go into playstore to get the geo-limited app you need.”
@KarenLot Thanks that’s really useful information. It prompted me to see what country Google Store (I have an Android) thinks I’m in, since I did previously have some difficulties downloading the EDF & Moi app despite living in France, having a French SIM etc. (Answer: it apparently thought I was based in the UK, with a UK credit card)
For those that might want to check/amend their own settings on Google Play for future downloading:
I assume the geographical restrictions on accessing some apps might perhaps be due to intellectual property rights and/or VAT issues?
Currently on the phone, now 27 minutes
‘merci de patienté quelques instants’
RESULT!
About 15 minutes into waiting I thought ’ oops I didn’t ring 3004 or whatever the other day’ stupidly I didn’t hang up then and call the dedicated Tempo line. Took me a full 30 minutes to get through to then be told wrong number! She was lovely and I was answered by a lovely guy just a minute or so later.
As others have said lots of questions about appliances ect. I made him laugh ’vous avez un jacuzzi madame?’. ‘Malheureusement non’ , il as répondu ‘c’est bien ils consume beaucoup’. Do you need me to send you the tarrif details? No all good, @Badger sorted me out! I didn’t really say that
He even checked if it was a jour rouge tomorrow (which I already knew!) Otherwise he was going to recommend starting on the weekend!
The best bit after looking at all the data re appliances ect our monthly payment is going from 117€ to 79€ Seriously that is amazing for a tiny amount of effort!!! So happy!
Thanks for all the posts on here that pushed me, I’d just filtered out the messages from EDF about it and not looked into it!
Just for information, the EDF English speaking helpline can switch you to the Tempo contract, for those like me who are not fluent enough in French
Geo-limiting on content sites like books tv music and movies and more recently, games is the classic reason IMO. As it seems content rights are a mess and were recognised as valuable long before the internet and sold across varying territories. So makes sense. There’s a poster or two here who really know this field professionally.
When it’s just apps, some of the geo-limiting seems to be just stupidity though. Cos an IT person doing Leclerc’s app here in France, for example, thought that just because they could, they should.
Yes there is Leclerc in a few other countries but did they really think downloaders would not be able to recognise their own country version if titled appropriately? That was my guess, about the pratitude of not being able to download a supermarket app - on my French phone, configured as a French phone, with a French SIM, in France, with or without a France VPN, with geolocation set either On or Off on the phone…nope. still not loading… Which is finally after weeks of coming back to it and it not downloading, what made me work out what the solution must be.
Aldi in the UK suddenly started geoblocking on their website for a while. I presume they had someone new in IT. Luckily they listened when I phoned them and asked them did they really not want their customers on holiday to be able to order things for delivery when they got home.
No don’t change your Google /google play country. You can only do it once per year. Ditto your Amazon country for content. Best to do what I said instead unless you’re sure you will never ever have a need again for the original.
Thanks Karen.A good prompt to consider whether I will ever need UK geolocated apps (ie to ‘justify’ changing my country to France on Google Playstore). To test it. I just downloaded/updated the only UK app I ever use (banking) from the Google France playstore - seemingly with no issues. I absolutely take your point though if you anticipate needing to download UK geolocated apps in future.
I change my Amazon country regularly. Doesn’t seem to be a problem.
I have 4 different amazon accounts depending on what want to do, France, UK, DE, and .com US for kindle as I originally bought and registered in US and for sending stuff to US family. works well for me
Can’t just one account be used to access all the different countries?
Sadly not, at least Amazon Prime is separate in each territory.
I have managed to order products from France, UK, Germany, Italy and Spain and I only have 1 account.
I agree - if by account you mean one password that works across all domains. The only thing that blocks an effective sale is if the supplier won’t ship to France, as sometimes happens with goods from the UK and US.
I think I just have one account. I always use the same mail address. I order from fr., co.uk., and de. I usually order with my laptop. When I use the app I just change the country setting. I can see a reason for having separate accounts, though. That way they have a less complete picture of you for advertising purposes etc.
