The Simpsons, and The Good Old Days

It is a long time since I saw the Simpsons, no real reason but, at a loose end TV wise this evening I watched an episode. I know these might all be old but can’t remember the excellence of it. Incredibly mocking of American life and so much irony. The first one I watched centred round the daughter (senior moment name wise ) Edit, Lisa :joy: discovering a way to make evil Mr. Burns start a veggie company. Hilarious.

I stayed and watched a 2nd one which had a mild dig at British pop stars but equally funny from the same point of view.

Had to leave to change the bucket in the kitchen making even more of a flood in doing so. :slightly_frowning_face: but then watched something I have returned to after half a century, The Good Old Days. Hard to believe that I remember almost all of the tunes and regularly follow the words easily. :joy: Not for the first time reflecting on the advantages of living alone and far behind double glazing from neighbours with only the dog to put up with the racket. He doesn’t complain though, perhaps he even likes it.

Count of Mont Cristo in 10 minutes. Good night all.

Still love the Simpsons, we have a collection of box DVD sets for watching when not on TV. Can still not get the image of a naked Mr.Burns out of my head from one episode, Santas Little Helper had more flesh on him! I’ve been watching the Waltons from the start, that brought back memories of Monday nights when Dad went to Whist and the rest of us sat and watched it on BB2. Some of the characters were amazing and transported you to the mountains of Virginia even though it was filmed behind a film studio car park in Hollywood.

Yes, I like the corny old Walton’s too, not sure how many actors went on to become bigger stars though.

BTW Mr. Burns at one point last night escaped from hospital complete with hospital gown flashing his BTM as he fled. Brought back their horrors to me. Many years ago I went into Exeter hospital after nearly losing a finger. They operated and saved it but did not check my gown before I went in and were horrified afterwards to see that I still had my underpants on. No infection was transferred.

Re the Good Old Days. Larry Grayson was funny as always, but Edward Woodward was the star, singing. I remember him as an actor rather than a singer. almost all of the rest of the really good cast never heard of again: Glad I’m not in show business when such talent disappears without trace:

My granddad loved that programme, we as teenagers could not stand it. Now I would probably find it acceptable and watch but there is always something else better on the dozens of channels I have to choose from. Some of the Sony film presentations are good and were cinema released for many of them. Last night I watched Vertical Limit on Netflix for the umpteenth time since it came out, it never fails to thrill and I thoroughly recommend it if you have Netflix.

I ditched me for some reason, which saved me a job as I was about to ditch it.
