The Ukraine situation, where will it end?

Considering many things, this isn’t completely inappropriate right now.

While Ukrainian troups occupy parts of Russia and destroy it’s infrastructure, Russian forces are on joint military exercises in Mongolia. They broadcast the fact on tv.

The Russians managed to shoot up two of their own convoys moving to block the Ukrainian advance towards Kursk.

Russian military fanboys posted video footage from the first attack claiming success against the Ukrainian invaders (without any sense of irony) until the Ukrainians posted their drone footage of the attack showing Russian helicopters shooting up Russian troops.

Shades of Catch 22’s Milo Minderbinder. Much more efficient for the Russians to bomb themselves.

Looks as though Ukraine can see being forced into a peace deal with Russia and they want as much Russia territory as they can get to bargain in exchange. It is quite an interesting tactic. I hope it helps them.

Impressive (forgive the Russian bad language).

Well, that’s that word fully desensitised as swearing now, almost mainstream moaning. This is how swearwords lose their potency.
How many people these days would believe that the likes of ‘bloody’, ‘blimey’ and ‘crikey’ were once hideously blasphemous?

Possibly those who can remember meanings for longer than the last 5min? Only crikey would not have drawn strong comment when I was growing up.

I didn’t realise blimey was considered a “swear” word back in the day. We used to get "told off" if we used bloody, but not blimey.

Gawd (God) blind me.

Think the full phrase is, ‘Gor blimey guv - it’s a fair cop!’

But I may well be wrong…

C’est un flic blond, surely

You’re missing “you’ve got me bang to rights” after guv, I think.

All very Cockney, for me and most people I know, blimey, all on it’s own is perfectly adequate as few people know its blasphemous origins.

“Zelenskyy says Ukrainian territory should be under ‘Nato umbrella’ to stop war”

“That’s what we need to do fast, and then Ukraine can get back the other part of its territory diplomatically.”

I also heard another Ukrainian politician pushing this line on the radio out of the blue this week.

This is the approach Zelensky and the other jingoistic Ukrainian politicians should have worked on over two years ago. All their bluster about winning back territory has only resulted in more death and destruction. It is also the approach the war mongering Western leaders like Biden and Johnson should have pushed. Johnson is a blithering idiot but the US administration should have known better. Instead they mounted a “reds under the bed” proxy war against Russia that was never going to end well.

The really annoying thing is the lying bastard Trump will get the credit.

Unfortunately, can’t see Putin agreeing to any of that while he’s winning.

Zelensky’s proposing a ‘reasonable’ solution that’s also an unrealistic one…

I’m hopeful Mark. Trump is such an unknown quantity he may be the catalyst for a compromise. After two years strutting the world stage Zelenskyy knows he’s goosed and I’m sure Putin knows spending 9% of GDP on “defence” and slaughtering his young soldiers isn’t sustainable either.

Expensive for Putin to sustain the war though - Russian arms exports are down from ~ $14 billion to less than a billion because all production is going to Ukraine.

Not to mention the ongoing waste due to corruption.

Granted this is Ukrainian biased, but this is proving enormously expensive to Russia.
