Left Germany yesterday morning at the tailend of a wonderful thunderstorm and downpour, then sun all the way down, everything looking parched, very hot upstairs once we arrived but all right downstairs, opened everything up and then very early this morning a massive storm with fabulous lightning very very loud claps of thunder and lovely lovely rain.
Bergerac fireworks looked beautiful from chez moi a few km away.
Good job! Everyday is a school day ![]()
Wish it was the same in Mantilly. A few false alarms over the last few days and this afternoon a true inundation that overloaded the drainage pumps, flooded a gite and then of course no power expected for several hours.
Ho hum
At least no need to water the garden tonight…
The Route du Soleil in le Sud ha helpfully written on every overhead message board to remember to drink water ![]()

Having finished up with vertigo in A&E because I didn’t, I can vouch for the importance of that message. ![]()
Temperature down to 23, and lovely steady soft rain for last couple of hours. Which should hopefully penetrate rather than run straight off.
Nice calming weather, just wise it was calming the football!
Big gusts of wind just as I was removing the canopy and it took off again with me holding on, less damage this time but leaves everywhere. Rain passed by again but supposed to be due in 20 minutes
I so envy you. I’m down to 1 inch of water in the bottom of our underground water tank. Time was, two or three good thunderstorms with rain during July and August would keep the water tank going. Not any more. ![]()
Strange thing is that even after no rain our well water level rose 0.20m yesterday. And yes, we remember the good thunderstorms and rain which helped greatly with the levels. Yesterday we were promised rain and strong thunderstorms. And we had nothing, zero, nil, nada, nilo ! This weather is becoming boring and I’m pretty pissed off with it. Roll on December!
We are promised heavy rain and storms later on and the storms are around Andorra currently so high up. Normally the forecasters err on the side of caution as does my branch of CA. Its very hot and humid again and I have just had a refreshing hot shower after a good hour’s weeding outside which if it does rain will have been a waste of time!
There’s been a bit of rain here in the last couple of hours and a couple of claps of thunder but I don’t think storms are forecast atm.
I was due zero rain. Just finished moving all my zinnia seedlings (47) from my ‘sprinkle seeds around the drip irrigation and hope for the best while going to England’ experiment. And low and behold the rain started, sun now out but utter bliss for the 3.68 minutes it lasted! Now the sun has come out which is a shame as its been nice with a little cloud.
I can never quite understand why the weathermen get is so completely wrong sometimes - well, actually most of the time. With all the technology available to them, you’d think they would do a better job than they currently do.
47 out of how many tory ? Would you call that experiment a successful one ?
I have no experience of this professionally. However, my theory is that they know what weather is around but not necessarily when it will arrive in a particular area, or at what speed. And weather systems can evolve unexpectedly and catch them out.
Whose side are you on @Jennifer11 ![]()

Honestly I didn’t count I just sprinkled seeds but all drips had seedlings so I’d say yes excellent success. I’m 2 weeks further on that I would be from going away and they looked after themselves! 23 cosmos, which I transplanted 2 days ago and they all survived and then the 47 zinnias! Will definitely consider again in busy periods, much easier than seedling trays!
That’s exactly why I put together my own weather report, using what I can see on the horizon, as well as Meteo&Radar and Meteo-Paris for their rain maps !
In fact, I still don’t understand the forecasts from Météo France at all (apart from the fact that they’re funded by our taxes
)
Just to let you know that Stuart posted the orange cosmos seeds today but missed the collection time so it won’t go until tomorrow! ![]()
